Quick question...hopefully someone has the answer to this one
My boyfriend and I would like to hire someone to come in and clean our apartment once or twice a week. Probably between 3 and 4 hours, maybe even less. I've found someone privately who is willing to do this but my boyfriend (Swiss) says this is illegal and the only way to go about this is to hire someone through a cleaning service company. Any thoughts on this one? I mean is it really that bad? Are people actually caught and punished for hiring people under the table??
thanks for the reply! does this mean we would have to pay something for them then? is there a site i could look at to get this info in english? if we have to pay, it may be easier and safer to hire through an agency.
If you are employing someone to work in your house make sure your insurance covers this, it is normally about CHF100 per year but covers your liability should they have an accident in your house.
It's perfectly safe so long as you comply with the law. In Geneva and Vaud there are services (run by the protestant church) which take care of all the details for you. They're called "cheques service" and "cheques emplois" respectively. I don't know what they have in the other cantons. You might have to do it yourself, but since the churches are involved here I bet the ones autre-Sarine might be able to at least provide advice.
Ok you mention your boyfriend is Swiss right? Well send him to read www.keine-schwarzarbeit.ch it contains info on how to legally employ a cleaning lady.
Also, you have to fill in a form for the AHV I could only find it in German but I hope your fella can pitch in and help you
