I wasn’t sure where to put this- it’s a question about the children’s book and what the connotations are of the name today. Any of the following you are open to answering to help me understand would be appreciated!
Who is Schlampinchen and what was her story about? Were there a series of books or is it just one story? What age would kids typically have read the book and of which generation? What was the moral of the story or message?
Today when that word is used, what is meant by it? What was Schlampichen like in the story and what connotation does it have if used today to refer to someone?

I have never heard of that book before but quickly looked it up.
It was first published 1965 so "a while" ago.
The message was that girls need to be good. And to be good you had to be tidy and caring.
In the story the parents stop telling the daughter to feed her bird. So the bird dies and the girl is devasted. And afterwards reformed. In a nutshell.
An obvious classic...

You have to be carful with the word Schlampinchen.
While "schlampig" means untidy, w/o care, "Schlampe" means slut, whore.
That's what I was wondering about as well. Thanks for the clarification!
