Question about private liability insurance

Hello everybody,

I will need to come to Svitzerland this september for a Master's degree thesis activity.

The institute where I am going requires me to have, besides other things, a (I quote) "certificate confirming that you have a private liability insurance valid in Switzerland during your studies in Switzerland".

The question is: does that mean that I have to have a private liability insurance valid during the whole time of my stay (24h per day), or just the time that I work with them in the laboratory (say, 8h per day)?

Thanks in advance for all the answers.

If you need more details feel free to ask.

Any country where you can buy liability insurance for 8 hours a day only?

No, this should be valid for 24/7 during the time you are here.

My university would cover me if the coverage is needed only during work hours.

Thanks for your answer anyway.

Doesn’t matter. As roegner says insurance will be for 24/7 regardless of whether or not your uni covers you. It’s only around CHF100 a year roughly.
