Question about using LAS Burg in Weil am Rhein

I know I read about LAS Burg here on English Forum before but can't think of the right words to enter in the search box and so far haven't been able to find any relevant threads.

So I signed up for LAS Burg online and got a confirmation email in return with a Kunden Nr.

Is it now just a matter of entering my name and c/o LAS Burg address + Kunden nr on e.g. Amazon.de and will the purchased items be shipped to their Weil am Rhein address? I actually tried to get them shipped directly to Basel but some of the items could not be shipped here.

Once delivered at LAS Burg will I then receive an email or text to notify me? Also I read that you need to produce a Kundenkarte. I however never received one of these. Is your Kunden nr. and ID sufficient to pick up your items?

It seems pretty straight forward but just want to make sure I got it right before I go ahead and make my online purchases. My german is average so I'm not 100% confident I understood everything in their T&C's

Thanks in advance!

You are correct on what you have written.

I think the first time I went to LAS Burg with my passport, they then gave me a Kunden Karte, and I set up a password there for the counter check in. It needs to be about 7 numbers.

Then the address is,

Your Name

c/o Las Burg & "Kunden Number"

Street & Haus Nr.

Weil am Rhein.

note there are 2 offices, one for small parcels and one for big parcels.

Yes to all your questions.

And when you go into LAS Burg to collect your parcel (and pay for it), ask them for a new Kundenkarte.

Thanks so much for the quick response... now I'm going shopping

Pin number is 4 numbers.

Make sure the sellers put the address correctly because otherwise it starts getting expensive at las as they then need to work out whos package it os and they charge by the minute.

Take your passport the first time to get your customer card.

They now encourage the use of both locations including the grenzstrasse one which was previously for larger items only. Happy shopping! Be prepared for queues on Saturdays.

Be prepared you are in Germany so ID accepted in Switzerland will not necessarily be accepted as ID in Germany.

For example a Ch-Ausländerausweis is not an ID in DE and any EU/CH

Driving license only is not an ID in Germany

Thats why I said "take your passport"

I don't doubt it. However for the avoidance of doubt and inconvenience for others....I merely stated the why implied in your post

Go early in the day - the queues are shorter.

Oh, and if buying over holidays (specificaly Christmas) expect queues when picking up!

Otherwise it is a great service.

Thank you for your inputs. I have opened an account with them and will be going next week to pick up the 1st delivery from Amazon.de

I had a few questions.

- When I pick up stuff from them, can I get rid of the packing material at the place itself or do I need to bring it with me?

- Do I need to declare the items at the CH border and pay duty? If so, what is the amount over which duty is levied?

- How do I claim back the VAT?

Many thanks for your answers.

Regards

1. Yes but its not free.

2. Only if you are over the customs limit.

3. Some places this is possible such as amazon but normally not possible.

I've recently switched from LAS Burg to Swiss Paket and couldn't be happier. The main benefits are:

The email actually tells you who the sender is (avoiding the mad dash after work to collect your new PS4 game, only to find its a back-ordered pack of screws ) There is no disposal fee for taking away the packaging (LAS Burg charge upto €1.50) There is no charge for receiving letters, and small packets start at €1 as opposed to LAS Burg's €2.50 minimum

I use their Rheinfelden branch which is the nearest to where I live, but Basel City folk would need to use the Weil Am Rhein branch. That is about an 8 min walk from Marktkauf so not as convenient as LAS Burg but worth it for the benefits IMHO.

Cheers. . I noticed the price increase at Las burg and it's significant.

It's by Aldi/lidl would say 15 min walk is more realistic ... unless I'm slow ?

I have used the Swiss Paket in Weil am Rhine. It is a bit less busy than Las burg As stated cheaper Parking is probably easier too. On the downside.. It is about a 12-15 minute walk from the Rhein centre/ Kleinhuningue border. It has no convenient public transport. slightly shorter opening hours ie closes at 1800 not 1900 on weekdays

I'm checking now the prices and between LAs-Burg and Swiss Packet are practically the same. I used Las-Burg without issues, but if Swiss Packet is less crowded and does not charge for the carton it's a plus.

Question: How do you get the Vat return when you buy in Amazon? Never made it.

Thanks.

If you address your parcel to c/o LAS Burg I don't see how you can claim the sales tax back! (See recent threads on here)

If you address your parcel to Switzerland, then Amazon will only charge you the Swiss tax. I have recently had 2 partial refunds from Amazon as they overcharged the Swiss tax.

Out of interest.. what happens with these services if I buy something from - say - China which arrives with - say - Fedex.

Do they take the package and pay all the import fees and then I reimburse them ?

No, Las Burg won't take a package from a courier if there are any customs fees etc to be paid.

Fedex will take it back to their nearest office in Germany and you will have to collect it from there and pay the fees direct to them.

Learnt from painful experience!

@Debra: If they don't leave it with LAS Burg, how do you get informed that there's a package for you to pick up at Fedex? Does LAS Burg do that?

And how far away is the Fedex place? Why was it so painful?

Thanks for any hep you can offer - I've often wondered this myself.
