I wanted to know if the GEO NEWS/ GEO TV (channel No 815/825) is FTA on SKY digital.

No neither channels are FTA on mine...

Ch 815 on mine is shown as GEO UK and is FTA. 825 is not.

One question: I am using a not using SKY box and using a HUMAX receiver instead. While I can access most of the FTA on Astra, but am not able to get GEO UK.

Is the GEO UK transmission specific to SKY box i.e. symbol rates/encoding etc .

However Lnygsat says its in Videoguard.

If you want programmes in Urdu, there should be some more stuff at 28.2 deg east in FTA.

If you want to subscribe you certainly need a Sky card with at least one mix.

You would also need a Sky box. There are ways to put a Sky card in another box, but it is not easy.

Yes, I see that even GEO UK website also lists that it is free on SKY digital. Although on the SKY TV website they are not in the FTA listing.

I have sent GEO UK an email asking for subscription information etc.

But was wondering, say if GEO UK is free on channel 815(as chiguy said in his post), so does it make a difference to have a SKY or non SKY box.

If a channel is FTA it can be shown on a Sky or a Non-Sky box.

With a channel is encrypted you need a Sky card.

Also there are cases where a channel is free, but flagged encrypted. In that case the FTA box will show it, but the Sky box not.

To speak short: If a Sky Box without card shows it, your FTA box will show it.

I have a Sky HD box and just checked these channels before I replied earlier. I'm not sure if the type of box makes a difference -- sorry, I can't help you there.

May be bring lunch from home more regularly.
