Quick question about a home office

I need to hire a person or two to work for me for a limited time project, ca. 6 months software development / IT work.

I need a office space to host 2 workers. Co-incidentally I have a room free in my home. Can I use that room as an office space? Do I need any permission from cantonal authorities to use that part of my home for commercial purposes?

Do I need any other permission from any authorities?

Responses from people experienced in this matter will be much appreciated.

You need, I‘d say, approval from your landlord. As your flat is not a commercial space. One person working from home should be ok but having your business with 2 employees might be a different story.

I think the biggest challenge may be finding someone happy with working from your private apartment. It's kind of odd.

first of all: home office is currently mandatory as it is part of the Covid measures. This gives you some time.

Plenty of office spaces available. Check, for example, Regus.

Isn’t that contrary to the principle of WFH? Admittedly it is a home they would be working from, but they would be physically mixing with you and one other employee.

For a number of years a neighbour had a business office in his basement. I don’t know if he needed approval from the commune but I suspect they were happy with the taxes. He was the owner as well.

I cannot see appartement mentioned, i see home which easily could be an individual house....

How many people do you need to work from home before you start needing to worry about fire-evacuation plans, first-aiders, employee safety, routine electrical safety testing of computers etc and so on....?

I don't know but maybe it's something the OP needs to check up on.

Lots are things are forbidden, every where in the world, but until you get caught you can get away with it.

Lots of things are illegal, everywhere in the world,- but not pursued by the authorities as sometimes, it really doesn't matter.

Depending on your nationality a fine may be the least of your worries.... we had the situation where an employee had to explain to his boss that he could not go on a business trip to Europe because he had been banned for 5 years from entering the Schengen Area as a result of previous breaches of immigration laws.
