Raclette odour

Ok, we went overboard with our new best friend, a 10fr Sigg Raclette machine we just got at a flee market, and made raclette just about every day last week.

How does one get rid of the omnipresent stench? We air the rooms but it still hits our noses when we get home.

I suggest alternating between burning candles and leaving some windows open — but it does take a few days to fade away. Also, leaving out a shallow bowl or two of vinegar can help absorb odors.

It could always be worse...

Time to break out those knitting needles!

Have a meat fondue bourguignon. The stink of the oil is sure to get rid of the odour of smelly feet

In addition to scented candles you could try a bowl of coffee grindings or an open tray of cat litter (yup it is a great absorber of smells).

You had raclette every day for a week?

That's what my friend from Wallis does: take a lemon or orange, put fresh cloves into it and cut in half - put maybe 1-4 wherever you think it's necessary.

Good Luck

A good fondue is highly effective in cleansing the raclette smell from the air.

Cheers

Hi,

Try cleaning the raclette (fondue set?) with vinegar and some drops of lemon, repeat process with half a lemon, it will do wonders

I found a bottle of isobutyric acid in the lab one day and it's the exact smell of racelette. To the point where my lab mate came in and asked if there'd been a raclette evening the night before in the building.

No idea what to get rid of it with, though.

...yeah, you could move somewhere else & be discriminated against for the 'cooking smells'

Maybe try some Febreze ? It worked pretty well to freshen up my favorite chair (which of course meant that my dog sat there with me quite often).

I believe they have one for "neutral" smell if you prefer that instead of some flowery / "ocean breeze" or whatever scent.

While you are eating, keep a Duftlämpli burning (seabreeze) and air your place very well afterwards. But still let it burn for an other 3 hours

And maybe you should try to eat Racelette only once in a week??

You just can't have it both ways woman. Either or...

Its all part of the game you see and now the smell will remind you forever of those lovely times you spent stuffing your faces with your friends. You did have fun didn't you? Besides, what kinda wine did you have with it?

To help get rid of unwanted smells I put a cup of white vinegar in a pot of water and boil it until it boils down, repeat if necessary. The vinegar smells but it really helps when it's all said and done.

The smell should have gone in the the meantime, right? If it's still there, it will remain for ever, I gurantee

Gosh, how would I like to have your problems...

Invite some guests with Irritable Bowel Syndrome for another Raclette party. The odors should be replaced but I'm not sure which would be more pleasant.

Hi,

Try boiling water with a cinnamon stick and cloves, then let it simmer for a while. I always do this for lingering cooking odors.

Alisa

also when you fill the sink with white vinegar and a bit of hot water- add lavendar oil and it'll smell better than just the vinegar- excellent to use as a household cleaner too! and the smell carries through the house! because i don't really like cheese my hubby and i made a deal to do fondue and raclette outside from now on!

good luck!

Everyone always has to go with a complicated solution, when a simple one will do just as well...

Yup, this is the hope also offered by the Swiss Raclette Association

.

I never had a fruit salad after a raclette. There's just no space left for anything after a decent raclette go go.
