Rainy day in Lugano: looking for things to do.

Just arrived in Lugano my in-laws for a 4-day stay and it’s supposed to rain 126 mm tomorrow.

Any recommendations for things to do where we can stay dry? We have a car, and wouldn’t mind driving somewhere to an attraction.

Thanks in advance for the tips!

I would go home.

Welcome to Ticino!!

The Blues to Bop festival is in town, you can check the schedule online and find bars / restaurants near the locations to stay dry whilst listening to the music (i recommend Flamel for great cocktails, on Piazza Cioccaro).

You could come to Bellinzona to check out the castles (not necessarily an indoor / dry activity but the weather is often surprisingly different between Lugano and Bellinzona).

You could also check out the Arts & CuIture Centre (LAC) to see if the current exhibitions take your fancy (and to hide from the rain).

Good luck, I hope you have a great stay!

Buy a few very good bottles of wine and spend the day posting on EF.

Works for me!

Though later I will watch F1.

But first I need to go to the garages and look for a portable air compressor to fill the tires of my wife's moped.

Go to the beach, less crowded today!

Otherwise, chocolate factory in Caslano (there is also a beach and mini-golf).

Have a gander at Sat24…it doesn’t clear out until Wednesday! Yikes.

Tuesday.

Perfect!

Are you with your in-laws or at your in-laws?

I assume the former, otherwise I'd say ask them but be very careful they don't see you posting on EF looking for ways to escape

Actually probably pretty empty today, although swimming in the rain can be fun.

Chocolate Factory is fun, or the OP could spoil themselves at the spa in Cademario.

The designer Factory Outlet…

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Yesterday we had a surprisingly enjoyable walk to Gandria and back under the protection of umbrellas (way better than a rain coat) followed by an evening of watching the F1 on the tele.

Today is Swiss Miniatur in Mendrisio and perhaps a stroll around the city centre in the afternoon. It’s not ideal weather for this, but in fact the general consensus in the group is that this weather is preferable to the heat we had over the past two weeks, so no one is complaining. Tomorrow might well be a Splash n Spa kind of day.

EDIT: and we are of course enjoying the amazing food. So it’s actually quite a successful trip all things considered.
