RAV refund if leaving country?

I haven't seen this one before but was talking to a Swiss friend who mentioned I should apply for a refund on all my unemployment payments made in the over 2 years I paid them since I will never use them. Is this true? If so, how do I do that?! Finding new ways of getting refunds everyday and liking them all! Anything else out there other than all the insurances and pension??

No, you may not. you can only get back your pension fund if you leave the EU basically. AVS you will not get back nor unemployement payments as they are not made to pay for yourself in case of unemployment. but rather those who are unemployed at the time.

Well, if you turn in your car license plates you can get a pro-rata refund on your annual car registration fees.

No, you definitely won't get a refund of your unemployment insurance premiums -- because that's what they are. Would you expect refunds from your car insurer, or your health or home contents insurers?

That's what I figured but HAD to ask

you can have a refund on unemployment insurance you have not yet paid. Well, kind of.

same principle, dontcha think?

A Swiss friend mentioned to me I can claim back all my health insurance premiums if I did not get sick. I didn't believe him.

At least we get life insurance back if we do not manage to kill ourselves during the specified time right?

If the Swiss don't make insurance jokes, who will?

They say the Swiss don't have a sense of humour

But if you will be unemployed back in your country, which has agreements with Switzerland, you could get unemployment.

Really? How does that work? I better not be unemployed long but as this jump back over the pond is for hubby's new job, as of 31 March I will be officially unemployed so this may be a good thing...although my guess is the waiting period would be longer than I should be jobless...

Would be great if that were true...but sadly it is not.

If you are EU you are lucky and can access the RAV in Swiss or in your home country at an adjusted rate.

If you are non-EU and without C permit...you can only cream (at most) three months of RAV money before they throw you out of the country.

It sounds unfair that you cannot get a refund if you did not use it......BUT you also pay this money in case you get fired from your job.

Just being Swiss doesnt mean the person, by default, knows anything about Switzerland

Your Swiss "friend" probably wanted you to write the letter and test his theory.

Personally, I don't think that logic make any sense as stated by many people on this thread.

Very unlikely with term insurance unless if it's a savings product more than an insurance product. Even many Whole of life policies will lapse unless you increase the premiums several hundred percent throughout the policy.
