RAV: Severance package and agreed non-paid holidays

Dear All,

I have a couple of questions RAV related and the only relevant answers I found were from year 2006, hence asking here in case anyone has more up to date information.

  1. I was made redundant due to restructuring and I got a severance package. I´d like to know if this will influence eligibility for RAV money. I found an article (Beobachter, 2017) that states that if one gets less than 148K CHF severance pay, RAV will still pay unemployment benefits. Is this still correct these days?

“Die Abfindung ist eine freiwillige Leistung Ihres Arbeitgebers. Solche freiwilligen Leistungen haben bis zu einem Betrag von 148’200 Franken keinen Einfluss auf die Arbeitslosenentschädigung.”

  1. We are planning to go on a 5 week trip this summer, but I will not have accrued RAV holidays by then (my unemployment only starts in June). I asked my RAV advisor about this and she said I could ask for unpaid time off and I would still be required to apply for jobs during this “unpaid leave”. Does anyone has experience with taking unpaid time-off during RAV and whether you´re still supposed to be searching for a job? I don´t want to start with the wrong foot with my RAV advisor, who seems nice and useful, but I also don´t want to spend my long wished trip searching for jobs if I don´t have to.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience or knowledge with the above queries. Really apprecaite it as I´m a newby on RAV-related things (after 15 years working in CH!).

Cheers

This was a reply to an old thread, but it seemed to suggest that amounts above a threshold are deducted from RAV payments. Not sure if this is correct and what new thresholds are if this applies:

Hard to give info without details. Make sure you take into account salary during notice period (even if not worked). That is just normal salary.

The 148k seem still accurate, at least couldn’t find anything more recent. There is another bucket on top of 88k (all amounts likely to be under permanent inflation adjustment) that you can put into Pillar 2.

Those examples are helpful. I didn’t know about the pension trick to extend the limit without penalty.

She is right. You can probably agree that over the two or three months these 5 weeks fall into you still reach your 10 per month or whatever the quota is. If you cannot, she is not as nice and useful as you think.

Right - I was brainstorming at home yesterday and concluded I probably can send the applications before/after the trip and still hit the 10/12 per month expectation. To be found out in a few months…

Thank you for the link to the Koordination file - super helpful and I hadn’t seen it before!
