RAV Timing of Registration

I have been informed last week that the company I have been with for more than five years wants to get rid of me because of a restructuring (also see another thread, same situation but different question).

I was given notice on the 31st of January, the latest I need to report is the first day of unemployment (1st of May) but are there penalties if I report in, say, March as opposed to immediately (beginning of February)?

As long as you have proof that you have applied for 10 jobs a month during the notice period it makes no difference when you turn up, I would suggest in April, they will want to send you on a days induction course & tell you to look for jobs

You can of course do what you want, but it looks best for the RAV if you can show a history of looking for jobs going back 3 months before you are unemployed. I typically register ( serial unemployed here) 2 weeks before being unemployed. The official line is to be registered the day before your actual unemployment starts.

I was never given any courses during my RAV time (clocked up 11.5 months so far over two unemployment periods)

No it's not.

I may be wrong but I think RAV don't care at what time you register as long as you can prove you were job hunting for at least three months before the job ended, or from the day you were given notice if the notice period is less than three months.

Latest day allowed is the first day of unemployed, but the obligation to start looking for another job starts much earlier.

Personally I'd go at least a month before but better even right in the beginning, depending on the work field they even might have a new job.

Can someone advice. If you quit your job I understand you get penalized for 3 months (60 days). If I plan to take 6 months off for personal reasons and I do not register in RAV during this time, will they also penalize this? I understand that it depends if you can demonstrate whether I've been looking for a job or not...is this correct? If I'm not actively looking for a job they will penalize this 6 months of the 18 months the unemployment benefits, so at the end I will be entitled for 12 months of unemployment benefits (that said I've been working full time the last 2 years with a salary of around 150K). Is this correct?

Thanks

Taking time-off at the start of your unemployment will complicate things hugely- the benefit is calculated on average earnings etc in the last two years before signing -on. I am not sure if you can sign-on and immediately take time-off.

If you quit your job, at best you will be penalized severl month, at worst you will get nothing.

Take six months off, your allocation will be at best 50% of normal, as they consider salary over the past 12 months (or 6 months, if it's to your advantage, which it wouldn't be in your case).

Not sure if this still applies but in the past the payouts could be postponed for an already-fixated Rahmenfrist. Like:

- register now

- some time later the Rahmenfrist starts but because you're not yet looking for a job you're not eligible for payouts. However you can postpone the start of the countdown (and thereby the start of the payouts) (for up to 24 months IIRC) until you're actually looking for work.

Do mind, OP, that this was the sitution almost 20 years ago for a Swiss, things may have changed considerably and they may be altogether different for a foreigner. So do not rely on this, instead enquire with RAV.

Hello

i registered at the RAV in december.

I gave the Arbeitgeberbescheinigung to my employer which said it will only fill it at the end of my employment period.

1) Should my employer send it to the arbeitslosenkasse directly or to me ?

Since they have not done their part, I also did not send my "Antrag auf Arbeitslosenentschädigung".

2) is there a deadline for this ? (I understood you lose your rights if you don't send it in time, but I dont know when)

Less related:

3) unemployment benefits are calculated only on fixed salary or also bonus ?

1) Should my employer send it to the arbeitslosenkasse directly or to me ?

Answer: the employer normally sends the Arbeitgeberbescheinigung (Employer Certificate) directly to the former employee, who forwards it as an attachment to the Antrag auf Arbeitslosenentschädigung (Application for Unemployment Compensation).

2) is there a deadline for this ? (I understood you lose your rights if you don't send it in time, but I dont know when)

Answer: send it as soon as the Employer Certificate arrives. If the Employer Certificate doesn't arrive soon, send the Application for Unemployment Compensation without it.

3) unemployment benefits are calculated only on fixed salary or also bonus ?

Answer: Unemployment compensation is calculated based on the higher of the average of the last six months or the last 12 months of income. This would normally include bonus but expect that the bonus will be prorated if it was partially earned outside of the last six or last 12 month period.
