I was given notice on the 31st of January, the latest I need to report is the first day of unemployment (1st of May) but are there penalties if I report in, say, March as opposed to immediately (beginning of February)?
I was never given any courses during my RAV time (clocked up 11.5 months so far over two unemployment periods)
No it's not.
Personally I'd go at least a month before but better even right in the beginning, depending on the work field they even might have a new job.
Thanks
Take six months off, your allocation will be at best 50% of normal, as they consider salary over the past 12 months (or 6 months, if it's to your advantage, which it wouldn't be in your case).

- register now
- some time later the Rahmenfrist starts but because you're not yet looking for a job you're not eligible for payouts. However you can postpone the start of the countdown (and thereby the start of the payouts) (for up to 24 months IIRC) until you're actually looking for work.
Do mind, OP, that this was the sitution almost 20 years ago for a Swiss, things may have changed considerably and they may be altogether different for a foreigner. So do not rely on this, instead enquire with RAV.
i registered at the RAV in december.
I gave the Arbeitgeberbescheinigung to my employer which said it will only fill it at the end of my employment period.
1) Should my employer send it to the arbeitslosenkasse directly or to me ?
Since they have not done their part, I also did not send my "Antrag auf Arbeitslosenentschädigung".
2) is there a deadline for this ? (I understood you lose your rights if you don't send it in time, but I dont know when)
Less related:
3) unemployment benefits are calculated only on fixed salary or also bonus ?
Answer: the employer normally sends the Arbeitgeberbescheinigung (Employer Certificate) directly to the former employee, who forwards it as an attachment to the Antrag auf Arbeitslosenentschädigung (Application for Unemployment Compensation).
2) is there a deadline for this ? (I understood you lose your rights if you don't send it in time, but I dont know when)
Answer: send it as soon as the Employer Certificate arrives. If the Employer Certificate doesn't arrive soon, send the Application for Unemployment Compensation without it.
3) unemployment benefits are calculated only on fixed salary or also bonus ?
Answer: Unemployment compensation is calculated based on the higher of the average of the last six months or the last 12 months of income. This would normally include bonus but expect that the bonus will be prorated if it was partially earned outside of the last six or last 12 month period.
