I'm new here and have gone through over 100 posts concerning RAV but could not find an answer to my situation.
My employer has given me notice and I would be unemployed unless I find another job within 2 months.
However we have a planned vacation few weeks before and after my contract runs out. I have enough vacation days left with my current employer.
Would this be a problem if I register with RAV now in that I cannot take the vacation? I am planning to take a 4 to 5 week vacation but would at most be away from Switzerland for 1 week after my contract runs out.
Is there any problem in registering with RAV until I return from the vacation a week into unemployment period.
Also is receiving payments from RAV considered as social benefit? I have heard that one would run into permit issues (in getting a C permit) if one receives social benefits.
I hope I can find a suitable job in the short time I have left but it seems unlikely and want to make sure I don't get into the bad books of RAV.
You may well be penalized by the RAV, as your clearly not serious about working, your planing to take a months holiday in a row, which is very unusual for someone working.
You could register 1 month late, however your salary is calculated as last 6 months average earnings & one month the salary is zero. If you earn 150k it would not make any difference.
You need to be actively looking for work for 3 months before your contract ends.....if your not applying for 10 jobs a month you will also be penalized.
RAV is insurance, your legally required to try to reduce any claim.
As I understand the OP he is proposing to take leave paid for by his employer as per his contract of employment - therefore nothing to do with RAV as they are not paying.
Leave he might plan to take while he is on the RAV scheme is a different matter.
I'm pretty sure to receive RAV payments you not only have to be looking but have to be available for work. Being out of the country for 5 weeks is not exactly being available. However if this trip was planned before you got your notice from the employer, then they might not have a problem with it or only reduce your payments slightly. You have to wait a month after your job ends before they start payments anyway from what I understand.
Thanks all for the replies. Really appreciate all your help. Nick understood it right. I am not taking a vacation when already on RAV but the vacation overlaps the unemployment period by 1 week.
This is a vacation I was planning on taking before my work situation changed. The problem is that the vacation runs into one week of unemployment period after my last date with the current employer.
I have been looking for jobs right away and not planning to take vacation because of the change in the work situation.
The flights have been booked already and we are going to attend a family event during this time. We could be returning early but this event is in the last week of the vacation which would be the first week of my unemployment.
Considering the above:
My main question is if I should register with RAV now?
If they ask me to attend meetings I won't be be available during the one month I'm still employed but also a week into after I'm unemployed.
The other alternative is to register with them once I'm back after the vacation.
What are the pros and cons of either approach given the situation.
They should honour the week you are away and unemployed at the same time. When I became unemployed, we had already booked a two week holiday a couple of months into my unemployment and they were fine with it (otherwise we would have taken a hit as we'd already paid the deposit and the balance for the holiday).
They will probably grumble a bit, but that's their job...
Thanks fatmanfilms for your reply but if the notice period is less than 3 months, say 2 months then I am assuming that's the time frame one should be looking, isn't it?
i would like to bring vacation subject back to everyones attention here
as one has 1.6 vacation days per month in RAV they say, one can take two weeks paid holidays after half a year
for example it will be 6 month i am with RAV in the end of May. by the end of May i will have 2 weeks paid holidays. BUT! in may i can take only one week and 2 weeks i can take only in June.
basically, it means that you can take 1 week of paid vacation every three month, but only after these three month and not during
means that the forth week of paid vacation i can take only after a year being with RAV, when i am no longer with RAV anymore, because in my case i can only be with RAV for 1 year
If your on a contract which is not a permanent contract, it's 3 months regardless of the notice period of the contract, as I discovered when a supposedly long term contract I was working on stopped 2 days later. The week before I was told to expect at least another 100 days...... I got a RAV fine of 11 days on top of the 20 days waiting time.
If you do part time work you can even end up with 1 or 2 weeks a year, you won't even get paid for that as 8.66% of earnings is treated as holiday pay already received.
