Reasonable Hotel or B&B near Bern Hospital

OH has to go into Hospital in Bern for an angiogram soon and I'd like to stay nearby overnight. Can anybody recommend a reasonable Hotel or B&B nearby. Would be very grateful for advice, thanks.

I assume you mean the Inselspital -- the university hospital?

If so I don't think there are any hotels really close. The Insel website recommends Hotel La Pergola for visitors -- apparently they offer a special rate. It looks to be about a 10 minute walk away (maybe a bit more or less depending which part of the hospital you are going to).

Most of the hotels in Bern are in the town centre, between the train station and the Zytglogge clock. If you stayed in this area you could either hop on tram 6, 7 or 8 (for about 8 minutes) to get to the bottom end of the Insel, or walk 5 minutes to the train station and ride bus 11 for a couple of stops. (Or walk all the way in 20-30 minutes.)

I don't have that much experience of the hotels in Bern. My parents and in-laws have stayed in the Hotels Kreuz and Metropole in the centre and had reasonable experiences. Not cheap not expensive (for Switzerland!) The cheapest option is the Hotel Glocke in Rathausgasse but that is basically a backpackers (albeit a fairly sedate one). (There is a YHA but it's at the bottom of the hill by the river, not handy).

In general when I am looking for hotels, either in Switzerland or other parts of Europe I really like the website www.booking.com . The information is very clear and there are lots of reviews so you can get a good idea of what to expect. Here 's their map showing hotels in Bern. The Inselspital is on the far left.

Thank you so much all. And especially to the wonderful EF member who has offered to put me up for the night, so I can 'hold OH's hand'.

Wonderful - mille fois merci.

I consulted our Work Assistant as she is doing a lot of bookings in Bern City Area, here are some recommendations:

--------------------------------------

Bern Western Hotel Baeren, Schauplatzgasse 4 - Tel +41313113367

[[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) www.baerenbern.ch

Room Average Rate during April is 225 CHF .

Best Western Hotel Bristol, Schauplatzgasse 10, 3011 Bern - Tel +41313110101

[[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) www.bristolbern.ch

Room Average Rate during April is 200 CHF

Those two hotels are in the city center - means distance to InselSpital is 10 min (3 bus stations). connections every 8 min, in the evenings and weekends every 15 min.

-----------------

Appartmenthaus Bern,

This is furnished appartment, can be rent per day for about 100 to 120 CHF

http://www.appartementhaus-bern.ch/

Not very close to the city center, tram comes every 8 min - and it take like 18 min to reach Bern City Center, means like 25 min to Inselspital.

-----------------

Bahnhof-Süd Bümpliz , Bümplizstrasse 189 - 3018 Bern ,

Phone: [031 992 51 11](tel:+41319925111)

This is a B&B for around 60 - 80 CHF per night, within a 10 min walking distance there is a tram that goes to Inselspital (Loryplatz then you walk 5 min.) and this takes like 25 min to reach it.

It is not in a very nice place, but its rate is better than the ones in the city.

-----------------------

Bern Westside Holiday Inn,

There is a Regio Train from Neuchatel to Bern that stops there,

There is a train that goes from this hotel area to Bern in 6 min (comes 2 - 4 times each hour)

It is in a very quite place, and there is a big shopping center beside it.

Rates From 170 to 215 CHF

Sounds like angel:

Angels of this forum: Name & Fame

Thank you so much for taking the trouble Misr- and I shall keep those links for another visit to Bern later on hopefully. In the meantime, as you can see from the post above, a really kind EF member has offered me a room for the night, and I am really grateful. We will have to leave at 6am to get there for 8!

No Angel here - but we've been together through thick and thin for 42 years exactly - so holding his hand through a hard time is only fair, bless his cotton socks.

Of course the EF member who offered to put me up and put up with me, is indeed an angel

I think he meant the person who's putting you up for the night .

I hope all goes well. Bonne chance.
