Recently moved to Villars-Sur-Ollon

Heya,

My husband and I recently moved from London to Switzerland. We currently live in Gryon but will be moving to Villars-Sur-Ollon in the next few weeks.

Since I am quite new to this country I don't really know anyone here. So would be happy to meet like-minded people for a coffee or a hike

My interests: traveling, hiking, skiing, writing, reading. I love culture in all it's forms - movies, books, music, art etc. I also love dogs and hope to get one soon. Oh, and I am learning French, just a beginner at this point, but would love to practice my (almost non-existent) French skills on somebody who wishes to improve their language too.

I work from home so are up for a quick coffee any time.

Also, are there any social groups or events happening in Villars-Sur-Ollon?

Thank you,

Inga

Welcome to Switzerland and the forum!

I'm nowhere near Villars-Sur-Ollon (confess I had to Google Map it) but welcome to EF and Switzerland. If you're ever up in the Bern area I'm happy to meet for coffee.

It's up Aigle, nearby the Diablerets...

It's a beautiful mountain village not that remote to civilization (Aigle, Montreux...).

As for "any social groups or events happening in Villars-Sur-Ollon", let's say it this way, if the OP join the main event, there will be 1 attendee in total

It's rather seasonal place due to ski, beside that it's nice and peaceful.

Hi!

I am not sure where Villars-Sur-Ollon is, are you far from Monthey? I am living near Sierre. We just moved here from Norway. :-)

Hey, welcome!

Not that far we are just up the mountain.

Cool. We're just up the other side in Morgins. Maybe we could do a Monthey meetup at some point? There's an Indian restaurant there I've been meaning to try.

Not in the next couple of weeks though, in the process of selling one apartment and doing stuff on the other house (in France) to sell that later this year. Sometime in June might work.

Reviving this thread. Five years in Switz and now married to a Swiss German and living in Aigle. Anyone fancy a Monthey meet up in spring when restrictions are eased?

Welcome, and enjoy. Go up to Lac de Bretaye when restaurants open- the owners are British.

Sadly too far in the Neuchâtel Jura to take up your offer of a coffee. If we come to sty ay in Villars, will get in touch. Would love to come and ski in March, but we have an older adoptive dog we just can't leave alone during the day.

Oh thanks Jackie! Yes, it's a nice area up there near Ollon so appreciate the tip. And yes, let us know if you're down in these parts

Which year?

But yeah, could meet up at some point, sure. The Indian restaurant I mentioned earlier in the thread is no more, sadly, never did get to try it. The one in Aigle gets some very poor reviews, ever tried it?

We can stay at a timeshare in Villars- but our 'problem' is our little dog. We can't leave her behind in the apartment as she will pine and bark. So we have to go where we can leave her in the car for a couple of hours, take her out for a while, and go skiing again. So for now, only ski in, ski out- with a garage. She is totally happy as long as she is in our car. She is 15.5 so we indulge her massively. Would love to stay ski in, ski out, at the Hôtel du Lac (Bretaye)- but dogs are not allowed, so ...

The studio we use at Thyon 2000 (double bed + 2 bunks) is just perfect for now.

Whatever you do, don't go to the Indian restaurant in Aigle! It's usually empty and the service is awful.

So I've seen, thanks. And the menu looks about as uninspiring as it could be. We just cook at home instead, Indian, Mexican, Thai...
