Can anyone offer a doctor or location in greater Zurich area that does a very good full physical examination with full lab workup, comprehensive check, etc ..... that would be covered on basic insurance?
I know that places like Hirslanden offer a very comprehensive 2 day complete body examination aimed at rich foreigners flying in for an expensive check that would be paid for privately or perhaps under private insurance .... However, I am looking for a doctor or center that would do a comprehensive check under CH basic insurance.
The type of full check one would have every few years, bonus if they have a preventative mindset.
It's not covered by basic insurance. Some supplemental insurances will split the bill with you up to a certain amount every few years. From memory, mine with SWICA is matching up to CHF 500 every 3 years.
I've used Arzthaus in Zurich for pre-marathon medicals. It's been a few years, but I seem to remember it included an ECG/HR/BP and chest X-ray, mobility tests and blood work. For the blood work we discussed what I would like tested. I think the cost was around CHF 350. All done in English. I'm sure they can do something more comprehensive if needed (and paid for).
Anyone have any recommendations for just a normal doctor doing an hour's checkup rather than these packages from expensive centers?
Very long time ago I asked this question on English forum, someone gave me the name and address of just a regular hausartz around Wollishofen-Kilchberg area who gave me a good hours worth of full physical / basic checkup and the basic insurance paid for it no questions asked.
The doctor seemed to have a list and full set of things, lab work, etc that he thought was comprehensive to check.
For the life of me, I can not find this post or this doctor's info now.
I think most GP will do this BUT GPs typically only do it if there are concerns - culturally here people do not just do yearly check ups unless something is wrong.
The trouble is with these types of threads from anonymous people is what is good for you is not good for me necessarily, what you consider "full" i may think it not full or over full.....
As others have said not all will be covered by insurance when I had a full work up a year ago I had to pay about Chf500 on top of insurance. Our GP does this procedure in house so her prices are more reasonable. It is worth talking to your insurance company before undertaking tests to see what is covered. I can recommend https://www.medforbalance.ch/ and Dr Sacherer has good english.
As per my original post in this thread, I paid nothing like that much. It was a few years ago, so I can’t remember the exact cost, but it was under CHF 700 of which my supplemental health insurance paid half.
Life pro tip: if you're over a certain age (~35), simply apply for a mortgage or life insurance. They'll send you for a complete check, and the underwriter will pick up the bill!
