Recommend Ischgl in Tyrol for skiing?

Any one can highly recommend Ischgl in Tyrol for skiing? We have booked into wellness hotel & spa about 27km from this famous ski area for whole next week. What's your impression of winter holidays in Austria? Is there anyone fellow EFfa coincidentally already down there and care to join on the slopes?

Ischgl has more of a reputation for apre-ski rather than it's skiing. If it isn't too late, and knowing that you like to ski powder, I would try to rebook for a place a bit south of there. That part of Tirol hasn't received as much snow this season and it will be a bit bony. If you could make it down to the Sella Ronda area in Sud-Tirol, you might have a better time skiing. You can also find some good wellness hotels in the Val Gardena area.

Have a good time regardless.

I just read that cars entering Austria, tourists included, also need a valid vignette:

Well, I'm gonna have hands on experience with it within next 30min. Way cool

Despite very little snow in the region of North Tirol and mostly crust making skiing less attractive, we have had a fabulous stay at Mozart Hotel in Austria . Spa and wellness alone were well worth it! Food delicious as well and family oriented. Would highly recommend this affordable location around 250km away from Zurich.

While my husband thought it was decent skiing, as a cross-country skiier I had nothing to do, nowhere to cross-country ski. So, Lech was much more interesting for me. Also, I do not like Valleys where there are no views.

Did love the public main pool though, that was great!

Good for ski and beers if there with the boys, if with family I would go to Galtur further up the mountain

Umm this is nothing new been the case for years!

Agreed. However there is a very important tip in here not to be neglected. I was checked by the local police and luckily did not forget to stick vignette onto the windscreen.

Tip: Affix the vignette immediately on receipt.

A valid undamaged vignette affixed on an untinted area of the windscreen interior is the only acceptable substantiation that the toll has been duly paid.

A cash fine of up to € 240 is levied if a vignette is not affixed. If the fine is not paid immediately on the spot, administrative penal proceedings will be initiated and which involve considerably higher costs (300€ - 3.000€).

And what is new about that requirement, have always affixed the vignette immediately on purchase. Why would you not when its so cheap?

Nothing new. Just a mere reminder not to chuck it in the glovebox or keep it in the wallet when traveling. Some people might fail or forget doing it - that's all.

Nice reminder, any person who gets caught deserves it for being such an idiot

Never been to Ischl, but have done most of my ski holidays in Austria, places like Soelden, St. Anton, Lech etc.

In general I prefer skiing in Austria over Switzerland or anywhere else for that matter. Reasons (general):

- Better lifts / infrastructure. In my view the Austrian resorts have made much more investments into this in the last ten years than the Swiss. You rarely see t-bars etc anymore.

- Great snowmaking capabilities

- Much better food / drink options, both on the slopes and in the resorts. The Austrian know how to make a cosy mountain hut.
