recommendation on robot vaccum model

Hello

I wish to buy a robot vaccum cleaner, which model do you recommend?

I don't have animal and only think about buying one in the hope that I don't need to vaccum my floor myself any more.

I tried to create a poll but it seems I have to provide the options myself, instead of letting voters to add option...

I have this type of floor. Thanks

I have a Roomba 981 which works well.

It no longer does the "random walk" method but works methodically backwards and forwards, using a camera to find landmarks so it doesn't get lost. I'm very happy with the way it covers the whole area and does the edges.

It's also a lot softer on furniture than previous models, using the camera to slow down before it hits stuff.

ps Our floor is tile; on parquet it would be ever better as there are no grout line which are a bit noisy. We also have short pile rugs, which it handles fine.

This thread hasn't been updated in a while but you might find some suggestions:

I had a "regular" robot vacuum before without the automatic empty dustbin base. It was still convenient but I wouldn't really term it as "Robot" vacuum. You still had to go through the hassle of emptying the bin and cleaning the robot post every run which kind of defeats the purpose of automation in first place.

I recently upgraded to Roomba I3+, and it has made life so much easier for me, and given me the opportunity to take my laziness to new heights

I just put it on a scheduled cleaning mode every alternate day, and I usually don't need to anything for 2-3 months on a stretch. Just let the robot vacuum do it's job and clean itself. For the price and the value proposition, I highly recommend Roomba I3+

I don't clean mine after every run! Maybe once every couple of months if I remember - the new rubber rollers instead of brushes make a huge improvement in reliability and avoiding clogging with hair etc.

Bin needs emptying after every two or three runs, which is OK.

The self-emptying looks very cool, if I did that though I'd combine with the higher model with better guidance. But I like that mine currently lives underneath a cupboard, which wouldn't work with the big dust hopper above the charger.

Go for my personal recommendation, Xiaomi Roborock

Comes with 5 year warranty

I have (Xiaomi) Roborock S5 -> it's very cool

I had an old , simple, dumb roomba before (no app, no mapping) and it wasn't good - difference between this and 'smart' one is massive in usability.

Also, Roborocks mop the floor if you want.

My (Xiaomi) Roborock S50 (mentioned in the other thread) is still going strong.

I got a roborock s5 max that makes maps of the apartment and mops. A year ago they were ~700 CHF, these days 400 CHF or a bit less.

For this model I have to empty the dustbin. Albeit, no big trouble because I have to add water, clean the mop, and get the hair out of the two brushes anyway, once or twice a week.

I have a few different Neatos over the last 6 years. They used to be the only ones that properly mapped the floor and were not random. Now some other makes do that too but the Neato has always worked well for me. I also have some other one that mops but its pretty useless.

I second the various points about mapping / intelligence.

Number one feature requirement should be not just bouncing around in a random pattern.

(I used to think the older Roombas were surprisingly good with their random walk - until I got a smarter one and I realised just how much time the old one wasted going over the same spots and how much it missed).

My apartment has a small step between rooms of about 2cm, I see some say they can clear the gap but I'm wondering how well? I don't want to come home to a pissed off robot stuck in a room in the evening.

I think I'll need to do some youtube research later.

I upgraded from a roomba to a xiaomi 3-4 years ago, and it's stil going strong.

Absolutely love it, only downside is that with two long fur dogs, it gets full every 2 days (I run it twice per day).

Thinking of getting the newer xiaomi model, the features just seem so much better than the roombas...

The Roborock should be fine with that. Is the the top edge of the step sharp or rounded?

Sharp. Something like this

I can try mine later - I'll see what it can get over. A bit like a vacuum high-jump event.

I got the I3+ a few weeks ago, and as I was installing it I realized that it can't do zone cleaning. Duh! My bad research... So it will clean my whole apartment every time and I cannot tell it to do a quickie and clean just the kitchen and dining area . So it went back to the shop and I was going to get the I7+ instead which has this capability, but then I came across the Roborock S7 which does zone cleaning and has a decent mopping function too. Roborock will release a self emptying station for the S7 later this year.

No way a Roomba will get over a 2cm step, the bumper isn't that high so it will just think it's a wall.

We've been using the Roomba 776 for about 7 years now.

Saved us a lot of time but still really noisy and requires quite a bit of room prep. Looking to upgrade to the Roborock S6 MaxV- great review and great recommendations.

However I am a bit weary about having Xiaomi camera's in my flat. It's a tough trade off - convenience and a clean flat vs. potential Chinese Big Brother.

For those with the mopping functionality, how effective do you find it?
