Hi! A quick question. I have a 5 yo portable AC which run out of freon it seems.
I’m trying to sell it very low but it’s getting no interest as a fan.
It’s still working fine but I don’t need it in my next apartment so it makes sense to invest into recharging it…
Long story short, as a last resort would Migros accept such a bulky device for recycling? Sometimes I am bringing them various electronics but of a much smaller grade. =)
“Ran out of freon” implies that it sprung a leak and it’s all gone, in which case it wouldn’t still be working; or did you mean it runs on Freon?
Either way, you’re probably mistaken. Freon was starting to be phased out nearly forty years ago, completely banned for all domestic and most industrial use for at least 30 years now. So if it’s only five years old then whatever it is/was running on it’s not Freon.
As for disposal, don’t you have a local recycling centre you could take it to? Well yes, I’m sure you do. Just ask your commune/gemeinde or indeed do a web search for the closest one to you.
Every seller has to take back what’s brought to them, doesn’t matter where, when, or who from it was bought. Other than that, as Ace said, any recycling center.
They are pretty well compelled to take it. And they likely sell similar sized units in their Brico shops. So why not.
There was a guy who visited it and said it was no longer an AC but merely a fan as it run out of freon and that those would run out of freon after 3-4 years regardless of use… I have no idea about how AC-s work but I believed him, especially that he concluded he wouldn’t buy it for a low price (a new one costs 500, I wanted 55): EXP34U338CW, Ersatzteile und Zubehör | Electrolux CH
As I am reading it is using some sort of a gas…
Anyways, I’ll try to sell it for 15 and if no one buys I’ll take it to Migros
Yes, modern units still use gas, just ones that are not harmful to the environment. Freon is a CFC, which were causing the Ozone Layer to disappear and were therefore banned from use as refrigerants.
I wouldn’t bother trying to sell it, TBH, it’s junk.
From their website:
My device is not working properly and I don’t know what spare part to order…
If your device is still under warranty, please contact our customer service by phone at 0848 848 111 or by email at [email protected].
Thanks! I got it from someone else as almost new, I have no info on the warranty and if I can bring it to Migros across the street it’s just more practical for me than to deal with Electrolux. I once ordered a tube replacement from them and it took them half a year to deliver it.
I brought it to Migros, they took it as anything else that was less bulky, for anyone wondering in future
Hey, actually was it the regular food store or melectronics? I have to check it as I have only coop and migros food stores near me, so it looks like I’ll have to travel to Zug to drop off such things.
I actually think they would be happy to accept it. You should just ask.
Aren’t you in Rotkreuz? Did you check the Ökihof?
I thought that electronics or household devices should be always returned to the shops. I’ve already disposed some stuff at Ökihof but I don’t remember seeing a container for such things, though I didn’t ask as I don’t have anything to dispose yet.
Haha, of course you have something to dispose of
Some recycling centers accept only a limited range of stuffs, but IMO every municipality has at least one that accepts all types.
It was an MM sized Migros back in Vaud, one brings stuff to the flower selling point there.
As for Ökihofs in Zug I am about to visit one today and overall it looks more complicated / less available than what I had before for daily recycling, but that’s fine
