Hi, my XBOX 360 got the red ring of death and I'm not sure how I get it fixed. I got the Xbox christmas 08. I would like to know where I can get it fixed in Zurich or how I get it fixed by Mircosoft. Thanks.
I would imagine the store you bought it at would handle it ?
when I got the RROD it was outside the store warranty, but covered by the microsoft extended warranty (they automatically added 3 years to warranty period).
I emailed microsoft customer support - they sent me forms for pre-paid courier and I sent it out to be repaired - I was in Munich and I think the service centre was in northern Germany. Got it back within a couple of weeks.
I've had this once - and after I gave the box away (as it was in the peiod where MS hadnt decided to extend warrenty); I then googled and it can be fixed... but careful of the warrenty. I now have extra fans on the back and I feel alot more compfortable now... Good luck
My xbox was bought in the UK and brought over here quite a few years ago. I got the Red Ring of Death and used the Support pages of the www.xbox.com page. Microsoft extended the warranty, took my Xbox away and returned it back fixed within 4 days - excellent service! I think it went to a centre in Germany.
Yea I'm pretty sure you just go to the microsoft website, and you can register yourself, then log your own warranty claim (typing in the serial number off your console). It sends you a PDF to your email with the address that you can print out and stick on a box. You will need to pay for postage though..
Just phone Xbox Technical Support, as it's covered for something like three years for Red Ring they'll send you a cardboard box and UPS will come by and pick it up. You'll get your box back in two or three weeks.
Suffered this fate with my 360 last night E-mailed Microsoft but may phone tonight and sort out about getting it fixed. Was toying with the idea of taking it apart myself but think I'll let them give it a go!!
Microsoft will repair it for you. My son had the same problem with his. It was under warranty, which yours will be as well. Check their website or call microsoft. THe door where you purchased it may tell you you need a new one and there is nothing they can do. That is not true. That's what we were told. Not true. call microsoft!
My husband had this problem, annoyingly before Microsoft announced it to be a common problem so he ditched it and sold it on ebay for spare parts for a tenner and bought a new one - then a week or so later saw the press release from microsoft mentioning it to be a common fault and that they will repair for free 'Doh'!
I got this RROD already three times, the box was fixed free of charge every time. I have however decided not to buy any games for it anymore and to switch to a PS3. I mean, come on, 3 times I had to send the bl**dy thing back ! And I hardly use it ! It sees long periods of no use (months at a time) interrupted with short periods (1-2 weeks) of frantic play when I get a new game (this also indicates how few interesting games there are )
Anyway, exit 360 for me, I'll get me a PS3 when the summer is truly over.
I got rid of my PS3 when they decided to introduce region codes for the Blu-Ray games. However, the Xbox 360 experience hasn't been too great for me (the most annoying thing right now is the lack of WiFi and the insane cost of the WiFi connector. One third of the cost of the whole box? WTF????), either - so if I can afford, I'll also get me another PS3 once the slim version's out and the older ones get discounted :-)
Whilst the weather has been rubbish, I have been playing around with trying to resolve the annoying fan noise my Xbox 360 makes.
Firstly I bought a Lian Li PC-XB01 box and placed all the Xbox 360 bits into it. This worked fine, but the Heatsinks on the CPU and GPU are a joke. My XBox 360 had been replaced by Microsoft (after the first ROD) so I had the new heatsink (with extra heatsink pipe).
I then decided to buy a pair of Noctua NH-U9D0 and fitted these as per the website http://www.silentxbox.com/xbox_eng.php . First try I managed to get 1 red light, second try 2 red lights (nothing on screen) and finally 3 red lights. I since re-fitted the Noctua heatsinks, using better quality compound and bingo, it is working like a treat, seriously quiet and running much much cooler
The flipping CD drive is still nosier than a 747 taking off, but using the 120GB HD and copying my most used games to it, it hardly gets used.
Oh forgot to say, if you tamper with the Xbox or the Xbox Hard drive (e.g. remove the case) you invalidate the Microsoft warranty. I only did it to mine as it is seriously old. If you are still under warranty let Microsoft deal with it, much less hassle and cheaper (because there is no cost).
