Reducing monthly TV/Internet cost

You must have noticed the bombardment of ads for internet/TV/mobile deals over the last couple of months. I was annoyed to see that my UPC package was CHF30.- a month more than the current deal.

So I phoned them and after over an hour of waiting only to be transferred to another department I finally spoke to someone who could do something.

I didn't want to increase my speed (currently 600Mbps) or have more TV channels, just, after 30 years as a faithful customer, pay what new customers pay today.

They agreed and I have reduced my monthly subscription by CHF54 a month for 24 months, thereafter it will be CHF10 a month more than I pay now. I calculate that UPC will need over 8 years to reclaim their discount...

To be honest, its a standard practise for all subscription based services to not offer discounts for existing customers unless they raise it.

Usually, as soon as a cancellation is raised, you are offered an immediate retention discount.

Its always a good practise to check with all providers once every couple of years on special "customer loyalty" discounts. No harm in asking anyways
