Hello, I am moving to Switzerland from the UK for a new job and trying to decide where to live. I am female and in my early 40s, like coffee shops, reformer pilates, somewhere that has nice organic food shops and lunch places. I will need to get to zurich HB 2-3 Tims a week as I will be working in Zug. I don't want to be near any loud bars or clubs.
Can anyone recommend any nice neighbourhoods I can move to?
Bonus points if the reformer pilates studio is less than a 15 min walk away.
Note - I currently live in the centre of London near Kings Cross and love it so if anyone knows of anything similar that would be perfect
Hello, and welcome to the forum and, hopefully, soon to Switzerland.
As you consider your options for accommodation, you might find some of the general tips in this recent thread useful, even though it was started by someone (like you, non-EU) who is hoping to move to Zurich (as opposed to your move to Zug).
To restrict a search to sites in Switzerland only, use site:.ch, eg. in "reformer pilates" site:.ch .
There's nothing I know of, in Switzerland, that is anything like Kings Cross, so whatever you find is going to be a whole new experience. For getting around, the public transport is excellent, and Zug and surrounding areas are great for cycling, so getting a bicycle might be a way to check accessibility for pilates studios, or organic food shopping, etc., in a slightly wider area.
The best studio and teacher for classical Pilates is in Zug ( www.pilateszug.ch ) - She's purely classical and an exceptionally talented and devoted teacher.
In Zurich, classical Pilates including reformer or equipment groups www.jrpropilates.ch - the atmosphere is encouraging and inspirational, the teachers are also devoted and exceptionally well trained and experienced.
I've only had a quick look, but it seems to be a single group class in Zurich is 70CHF even if one buys them in bulk. In the centre of London, I pay £160-180 (so around 200CHF) for a month of unlimited reformer pilates classes and I pick which teacher I like to follow. Do you think there is anything similar so I can follow the teachers I like? My class in London is normally 6-8 people at most, though some studios have 20 people.
Thank you! That might be a fun idea to get a bike to get to places. I was just thinking it gets a lot colder in Switzerland (than London) and it snows so the bike might be of limited value in cold / rainy weather? So living a short-walk from a few things would be preferable.
Nothing new here. Generally one receives a permit from the Canton where they will work. That permit is valid for work and residence in that Canton. It is not unusual to get permission from both Cantons to work in one Canton and live in another.
I lived in Vaud but worked in Geneva, with permission from both. (Vaud was happy for me to bring my taxes to them, but didn’t want me to work there. Geneva agree because of the severe housing shortage there)
These rules apply to all 3rd country B (or L). After getting a C you can live or work anywhere you want.
