I'm having a hell of a time finding a region free DVD or BlueRay player.
My wife for her birthday has asked for some US DVDs, and now that we're all Swissified (at least from the standpoint of our electronics) we have no way to play those DVDs.
I found the DVDs here in Switzerland easily enough, but I have failed to find a region free DVD or BluRay player. Perhaps I'm searching for the wrong terms... not sure.
Anyone have any advice on finding one? Maybe a link?
I bought a Samsung player at Interdiscount a couple of years ago. It was region-free out of the box. But nothing was mentioned on the box or in the documentation.
Thanks @bowlie - how did you know you were getting a region free player? Between my inadequate German and all-over-the-place manufacturer model numbers, it's been very difficult to say what models are region free...
Alternatively, you can get a cheap DVD/Bluray player/writer to plug into your laptop, set it to zone 1, then rip using DVDShrink or similar to zone free. You can even burn the results - best to Bluray for the larger DVDs.
Can't help with the German, we speak French around here. I didn't set out with the intent of getting region-free, but that's what I got.
Go into interdiscount with your phone. Use DeepL to translate "Do you sell Region-Free BluRay players" and show it to them. The answer should be pretty obvious. (and they could speak a little English as well)
Looks like this was a bit of a PEBKAC (problem exists between keyboard and chair); the Blu-Ray she wanted was available both in US and UK versions, and I didn't realize the UK version has the correct region code and works with our Swiss player.
And as much as I'd like a workaround to all these region codes and inane restrictions, just buying the Blu-Ray with the region code that works makes everything simple.
As always, I appreciate the collective wisdom of the English Forum Peeps.
