Registering for permit at a temporary address.

Hello everyone, I come to zurich look for a job and I was staying in my sister's house. The last week I found a job and then I would ask for the permi. But now my sister is not sure if I can give her adress, because she has a rented house and she doesn't know if the housing allows. The housing is spross immobilien...do you know if they usually put barriers in this type of situation.

Thank you

Do you plan to stay for long?

It is reasonable to stay for maybe 6 weeks 'as a guest' but eventually someone will ask whether it is permanent. If the apartment has two bedrooms and only two people staying in it, then it is probably easy to get permission to stay permanently. If it is a one-bedroom then depends on the landlord.

Either way, it is possible to register with a temporary address. We did this with a friend and just put c/o our family onto the registration. But it will cost a small fee to change your address again.

In our situation, the person already had somewhere to move to in a couple of months, and their told the town hall this and the town hall took both addresses and the date of moving at the first registration and she did not have to register twice (but she was not moving out of the area).

Hope that makes sense. You can stay 'as a guest' within reasonable limits...

I qm planning to stay only until I found a room or an apartment to live.

The apartment has two bedtooms and a sitting room and lives here a couple and a child and now me.

If I register myself here with temporary adress, it is possible that the landlord brings problems to my sister?

I don't think the landlord would even need to be be informed, it's only a question of whether the apartment meets with the space criteria required by the Kanton. But I don't think they'll bother anyway if you're honest with them and make sure they know it's only temporary.

If it's just for a short time then probably no big deal. Your sister might want to let the other tenants in the building (or at least on the same floor) know you're staying for a short time, so they don't call the landlord to complain about a new tenant. Be sure to add your name to the mailbox, otherwise your mail could get returned to sender.

Thank you all for the answers

Hello everyone!

I am currently at the same position as andreia.sofia. I am moving soon to Zurich and my boyfriend is already there living in a 1.5 room apartment. Will it be possible to register there? We were thinking of staying in that apartment for a month or two, until I start my job and save some money to move to a bigger place. But considering that it is not easy to find an apartment it might be longer. Is there any limit to how 'temporary' the address can be? Any information is much appreciated! Thanks.
