Relocating to Zurich as software engineer

Hello,

I'm a software engineer with a B.Sc in computer science, and more than 6 years of experience (I also worked in well known software corporate for 4 years). I have a dual citizenship Israeli/Hungarian. I'm fluent in English/Hebrew, and have very very basic German skills. I would like to know how hard would it be for me to find a job in Zurich. Must I know German? Do companies in Zurich provide relocation packages for new employees from abroad? are there any visa quotas for people with Hungarian passports? What are the salary ranges in Zurich for software engineers?

Any information would be helpful :-)

Thanks a lot.

Roy.

With a Hungarian passport, there are no quotas.

But that may change after Feb 2017.

German of course helps, but tons of openings for sw engineers that do not require German.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with job hunting.

Some more information from you regarding your domain knowledge would help the others in the forum to tell you about your chances.

Knowing the local language is a massive advantage in every country of course. For professional purposes, it's probably not a must in your case, though still an asset. Also depends on the company - local ones, forget to survive without German; big international ones - possible.

Depends on the company and hierarchical level. Based on your background, you're very likely not some senior exec, so probably no relocation or not much.

No.

Someone else needs to answer the salary question.

Xenomarz this thread discusses what has been happening in the Swiss IT market in recent years, well worth a read to give you some general perspective:

Much will depend on how skilled you are and whether the skillset needed is a difficult to fill niche, or not. The IT market is changing, there is a lot of downward pressure on salaries - so be aware that posts of even a few years old might not reflect today's reality.

Good luck with your search.
