Removing ivy from outside wall

We've hacked down a huge amount of ivy from one of the side house walls & we are left with a right mess of tendrils stuck to the artexlike exterior. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to get the worst of it off as we'd like to repaint the wall. The jet wash didn't work, nor did a wire brush!

Ivy is hard work to kill. Took me a few years.

I used paint remover and burned the roots. Eventually tried Cillit Bang (which is a cheap cleaning spray you can buy most places like Volg) and this seemed to do the trick. painted over with lime based whitewash.

However, it is a bit of an envirionmentally unfriendly method.

Trouble is, the ivy roots sometimes hold together the brickwork and they crumble when it dies.

Good luck.

PS Cillit Bang is also good as a weed and moss killer - but same applies about the environment
