Rent a car with tow bar

Hi

I urgenly need to rent a car with tow bar to bring my motorcycle back from Milan to Basel . A van for trasport the motorcycle is not an option as i need to travel with my kids.

Do you know anybody ( garage or else) that will rent me both car and trailer?

Do you know somebody willing to rent out its own car for a weekend? (I know it sound crazy but it is worth a try)

maybe it's easier to find someone who is willing to drive it to Basel for you ? Would be a nice trip, train to Milan and motorcycle to Basel...

If this was the case i would have driven it myself into swiss...

The moto have not been use the past 3 years, therfore to put it on the road ( in italy) i need to make the registration check, pay insurance and travel tax for those 100 km (this is the distance to the border) plus some other burocratic stuff for a total amount of 1000 chf circa... then re-make the registration, change plates, re-insure and other boring stuff here in switzerland. Its just too expencive.

still, i need a trailer to put the moto on otherwise ive got to pay import tax here.. The idea is to get the moto on a trailer and go through the border as a turist passing by swiss so that 80% chances they dont ask you for paperworks, im italian and make sense to ride with family and moto behind. If i use the van, they stop me right away and i have to put down about 800 chf between duties and vat.

I know, its an headache, if i dont find anything of course i ve got to use the van/lkw or whatever is called.

I keep my finger cross, maybe some crazy person may rent me the car.

How long have you owned the bike? How long have you been in Switzerland?

Are you trying to avoid import taxes that you should pay? Or are you worried you will pay taxes you shouldn't have to pay?

My dear, if you try and smuggle the bike in like you seem to suggest, you're going to need a whole lot more that Chf 800.--

im going to import it because is MY bike as i ve inherit it from my father. Im not a 'smaggler' and if swiss was an EU country it would be sooooooo easy. Now, i do not have to pay import taxes but to prepare the papers and get the approval from the custom bureau will take more then a month and i need to get the bike out of Italy now as the warehouse where it is in will be dismantled. But it is all this important for you? all i asked was : do you know where i can rent a car with a tow bar?

just beware that if you, eh, 'import' the bike in this way you will never be able to ride it here on a swiss plate. When you want to register a foreign motorcycle here on a swiss plate you need a stamped form from customs.

You implied you were going to smuggle the bike through, as to whether i can assist you with a tow bar/trailer combo, it would be sooooooooooo easy but can't be bothered.
