Rent situation in Valais

Hi there!

We're family of 2 (plus husky dog), planning to settle for a while with status S in Switzerland, and according to current distribution most probably we'll be allocated to Valais canton.

We are financially stable and we don't want to become a burden, so we want to rent an apartment on our own. In another topic I saw the list of documents that is usually requested by landlords, and it's obvious that we can't provide it.

With regard to all above, my question is it possible to compensate lack of those documents with advance payment? I.e. status is valid for 1 year, and we can cover, let's say, 6 months of rent advance + caution ? Or the market in Valais (and particularly Sion, Martigny, Monthey) so hot, that landlords can still be picky with offers like the one I described?

I would be surprised if someone accepts something like this, it sounds unethical if not illegal so they might steer clear of it especially agencies. The canton's office probably has a list of apartments made available for Ukrainian refugees exactly to avoid this documentation problem.

On what basis do you think it is unethical and illegal?

An S style visas grant Ukrainians the right to live, take up employment and even be self employed in most of Western Europe for up to one year. As far as I'm aware there is no obligation on them to apply for refugee status or to avail of pubic services.

It depends where you are renting. In the ski resorts of Valais for example, I have never been asked for any documentation to rent an apartment.
