Hi all,
I am planing to make a bussiness trip to Switzerland in March 2010. And I would like to rent a car from Basel.
I check different rental car companies from internet. But their prices are not acceptable.
I need support for this issue. Is there any advice to find rental car with best price? Is there any Swiss local rental car company in Basel?
Thank you for your support.
Hi all,
Is there anyone to help me?
Thank you for your support.
Regards.
Why bother with a rental car? The public transport here is excellent.
www.sbb.chalso
Available in German, French, Italian and in English

I recommend Sixt:

Ittigen is right: the public transport is excellent but expensive if you do not hold an 1/2 fare card! You'd better buy a Swiss pass then:

Hope this helps.
The reason why there are hardly any budget rental companies is because the insurance cost for rental cars of around 15`000.- per car per year. It is far to high for smal busineses to make a profit. You will not get a car in Switzerland for under 120.- per day plus costs per km.
You have to consider the very good public transport in switzerland if you are on a budget. If you are a member of some car sharing union you might be eligible for the service of mobility.ch
If you are a meber of some aid organisation or coalition you could find out if you could get a car from some organisation in switzerland. E.g. red cross or some disability union.
It's 200 pounds for four days from Avis from Basel airport in March. If that's unacceptable then our "business trip" terminology is completely different. But try SBB, probably just as expensive without Halbtax.
I agree, catch a train.
it's not like you're going to tour all over europe....
I always use Sixt. And it seems to be cheaper if you access from the US site. Have not tried Turkey. Prices are always a bit high in CH, and I can imagine higher than what you are accustomed to in Turkey.
Good luck.
I use Expedia or other sites to compare prices. From the US, I always find a car in the $30-$35/day range at GVA.
It is usually a Toyota Aygo or similar but it is perfect for Swiss cities.
Try renting the car from the French side of Basel airport. French rentals are generally cheaper than Swiss ones.
What is acceptable to you?
How many days?
Starting when?
I think SFr. 30.- per day and unlimited Km for an 2 seater Smart including insurance for 30days is OK. Where would you get a cheaper rental car on this world?
I think your a little mistaken with your Chf 15'000 per car claim, thats Chf 41.-- per day EACH & EVERY DAY of the year irrespective if the car is rented or not.
As for nothing under Chf 120.-- per day, this maybe true if you only drice BMW's or Mercs but nomal cars are far cheaper, Chf 75/80 per day fpor a 6/7 day rental period.
I dont think you will get a "normal car" for 6 days for 80 per day without limited km.
I did ask a incurance about a incurance to rent out cars. They gave me a quote of a minimum of 12`000 premium and an a low PS car for 3rd party liability insurance only with an excess of 5000.-
I dont think a busines could get a insurance per day as required for rented out cars.
Wow. Last time I hired a car, about a year ago, I picked it up from Heathrow airport at 8am and dropped it off at 7pm. £23 fully inclusive.
I admit I was surprised how cheap it was, to be honest, considering some of the driving skills one sees in London.
I just went to Expedia and the cheapest I found is $33/day from the Basel airport for an economy 4 door sedan.
You missed the point sweetie, irrespective of whether the car is rented or not, it costs the company Sfr 41.-- per day, every day, which no business could afford.
As for daily insurance, i agree, but then i never said anything about daily insurance, i gave you a breakdown of the annual premium on a daily basis.
Dear all,
Tehse are very helpful feedbacks for me.
Thank you for your support.
And avoid pickups from airports where possible as there is an additional tax. Just take the bus into basel and pickup the car from the rental office in the town (for whichever supplier you choose).
