Was just considering applying for a rental decrease and I noticed that my contact is 9 months, not the usual year. It started 1 August 2010 until 1 April 2011. It's been automatically renewed but am a bit concerned about it - do I have fewer rights than someone with a yearly contract? Everyone else I know seems to have a year. The agency is Bernard Nicod.
Well, as it’s now 2013 I doubt you have anything to worry about. What does it say as far as the termination notice goes? We had a yearly contract, but with six months’ notice for termination of the contract.
Hmm, I guess I just don't like it because it's unusual It has the normal term about not giving notice on December 31, but underneath the rental terms, duration and resiliation in bold it says:
It s'agit d'un contrat de bail a duree determine pour lequel aucun renouvellement n'est prevu
Sorry, no accents on my keyboard! Can anyone shed any light on this please?
Well, my French and my translation package aren’t that good, but I think it says:
It is a lease contract for a set duration for which no renewal is foreseen.
Now this could be taken to mean that it was only for 9 months and the contract wouldn’t be renewed or - as you’re still living there - the contract period is set at 9 months, but rolls on without any need to be renewed.
