Renters' Insurance

Does anyone know where to find renters' insurance options? I moved to Basel and am currently renting an apartment, but I want to ensure that I am covered just in case an issue arises. Thanks in advance for the advice!

If you own valuable stuff, having a "Hausrat-Versicherung" might be a good idea.

They are usually "packaged" with a "Haftpflicht-Versicherung", which covers damage done by you to other peoples things.

Have a look at comparis.ch, there you can get offers from different insurance

companys.

This is great advice. I will definitely check it out now!

This is good to know! I didn't know that comparis had insurance options too. I used them to find my apartment, so I will check it out now as well.

I will visit this and thank you for providing the package name. I am still working on my German skills!

No problem.

Comparis lists providers for those, too (and allows some limited comparison between them).

You might want to get a detailed quote from any of those, as the online-quote is often not the "last word", it's more of a guidance.

Insurance for apartment rental

I mentioned this in your other thread, but you also need liability insurance to cover your dog, this is required in Baselstadt.

Many if not most insurers roll this into your Privathaftpflicht insurance, but not all do, so verify that you are appropriately covered with whoever you choose.

You may need to supply proof of liability coverage to the Gemeinde when you register your dog.

Is there any insurance for 'Legal protection insurance' for tenants incase landlord decides to go legal regarding rent dispute..??

I am already member of https://www.mieterverband.ch/mv-zh.html

But their insurance starts aftr 2 months.. I would like to have right now.. just to cover up incase..

You don't need one, hearing at the first dispute instance (Schlichtungsbehörde) is free of charge

And insurances would normally reject any claims related to a pre-existing case anyway or it's not really insurance, I believe there's something to this effect even in the law, in case you don't find this clause in their terms & conditions

Well I am new Switzerland. I read somewhere that it cost 10-20CHF per month.

I just want to get protected by rental disputes for next 3 months. My landlord always threat that he will ask his lawyer to contact me. So better protected

Any advice would be appreciated..

As ivank said, most insurances will not cover anything that had started before the insurance was taken.

Happens in a lot of countries, not only here.

But litigation has not started yet...

Yea, but there is already an issue now
