I believe you can rent formal wear at Mettler Herrenmode . One shop is on Löwenstrasse, the other in the Rennweg Quartier

Bit of thread resurrection from the archives, but I recently had need to hire a tux at very short notice (e.g. to hire on Saturday morning, to wear on Saturday evening).
The link above for Atelier Claire Schärer replied promptly to my e-mail, had loads of options to try on, the price was decent (or I thought so - 220 CHF for a 1 week hire) and includes post-hire cleaning.
Also flexible on return times as well.
All in all if any is looking to hire a tux (or by the look of it, a whole stack load of different fancy dress options) then I can really recommend these.
Also looking to hire a tux for new year, are the above links still the best options? 220chf for 1 week seems pretty extortionate as it's 30-50% of the price of buying a decent middle of the road wool tux brand new...
Just FYI, I called the above places and was told it would cost 250chf to rent a tuxedo... without shoes. 250chf for one use? **** that, it makes no financial sense whatsoever , much better to simply invest in one for 2-3x the cost of a rental and use it for the next x years.
In the end I got a lovely pure wool tuxedo and trousers from Tommy Hilfiger store on Bahnhofstrasse. It was the last place I checked after traipsing around every friggen menswear shop in central Zürich all day and finding naught but Hugo Dross in my size for 800chf+.
This was better looking and tailored than the usual Hugo Dross stuff, the trousers were perfect, and as sheer unbridled luck would have it the tux just happened to be 50% off in the sale. I actually cheered when I realised that. Plus staff and service were excellent, I have been there a couple of times and it really is one of the most friendly and helpful stores you will find.
If you are looking for a quality tuxedo then I recommend heading there as they still have several sizes left in the sale.
I bought my Smoking at Dobell off the peg for Fr 165 (incl. delivery) and am very satisfied with it.
