Repairing Window Shutters / Blinds

Hello,

I was lifting my window shutters today and apparently they got stuck (I guess due to the cold). I tried as hard as I could and I broke the pole attached to the handle (see pictures attached for the kind of shutters that I'm talking about).

Before contacting my landlord I want to try to fix it myself. I was wondering if I could find a replacement for the pole at Jumbo or somewhere similar. Does anybody has had experience fixing shutters?

If I do contact my landlord, how much do you think he would charge me for it?

For now, I just want to change the pole and then worry about fixing the stuck shutter later. at least I can go to my landlord and tell him that the shutter does not work anymore and I wasn't my fault...

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I know how you feel now. It happened to me just after the New Year holiday when I tried to open a frozen window.

I had the same idea as yours, but my Swiss colleagues suggested me to contact the insurance company, which covers damage done by myself (do you have any?), to discuss how they wanted to proceed. It is because if my repair went wrong, it could cost more.

In my case, the insurer told me to contact the landlord and arrange the repair, then send the bill to them. They promised me to cover all costs. The landlord organised the repair, and surprisingly he did not charge me at all. I don't know why.

If I were you, I would talk to an insurer first, then think about the solution.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply!

I don't have insurance for these kind of mishaps...

Do you know how much your repair was?
