Wonder what Thomas Edison is thinking up there.
All very much dependent on which car. Yes, some are quite easy to do especially on older type cars but with modern spec it can be quite difficult and very awkward.
Yes indeed. Had a sidelight go on the Audi TT a couple of months back, and needed to remove the whole headlamp unit to get to it. Fortunately found a quick how-to page on the interwebs and it only involved removing one screw and loosening two others, so took me about ten minutes in total, but without the instructions I would have been struggling and probably made a right mess of it.
Just imagine: once self-driving cars become the norm, there will be no need for headlights. Cars will navigate using GPS and sensors which don't the road to be illuminated. And no need for all those ugly street-lights, road-signs, traffic-lights, road-markings etc.
I had a Jaguar S-type a couple of years ago, and needed a new lightbulb. The garage had to remove thee bumper to access it, and I was billed CHF 950 to get it replaced :-(
Doc.
Same for the A4 but for the main bulb, you can just squeeze your hand in there and do it for one side and on the other, just loosen and move the light a little.
The side light is harder and without finding instructions, it's not at all obvious but easy once you do.
My headlight bulbs go every year without exception and now buy them at Ottos because the cheap bulbs are no worse than expensive bulbs.
I really do not subscribe to advices please do not DIY, high voltage present therefore send it to authorized dealer and pay CHFxxx ...
Once I was quoted for Xenon replacement in my Bimmer's headlights about CHF500 in local BMW garage. I stripped what needed to be stripped down the wheel well and painstakingly accessed the bulb. Online it cost me something like EUR75 plus set of tools add your time and labour. Still well worth it beyond the official price. Screw them!
Strewth!
