Replacement bulbs for auto

Hello

I have a reverse light out in my car. Without going to the dealer, are there general places (in the Basel area) where I can buy replacement bulbs? Like OBI?

Petrol stations for sure. At least for headlights. I bought a couple of times from there

Its the reverse light.. I will try them

Any of the larger DIY shops, Jumbo, Obi, Co-op B&H, Migros do-it etc. will have such things, as well as larger petrol stations like motorway services.

I will second the jumbo, our headlamp goes every 3 months or so and jumbo has a range that is less than half the price of what you can find in the garage..I will post again in 3 months to tell how these cheaper ones are going......

Doesn't everyone carry a set of spare bulbs, in a nice plastic case, in their car?

Aldi often have them in their promotions, throughout the year - worth looking out for, for the future.

Landi is also an option.

Not in Basel it isn't.

Migros Do-It, Coop bau+hobby, Jumbo.

Buy the cheapest one, don't overpay for brand names. The brand named ones are actually calculated to give up after a rather short time. I once splurged on Osram Night Breaker lamps and they both burned out after exactly a year, one week apart from each - surely no coincidence. The replacement 3 chf bulbs are in service for 3 years now.

spot the person that got conned by the extra light claims

One easy way to get more light out of a given bulb is to over-volt it, i.e. use a higher voltage than it was designed for. This will inevitably lead to a drop in lifespan.

So one might surmise that this is how the extra-bright bulbs do it, simply by designing them as if for a lower voltage?

Watt?

Or get an LED bulb - they're not so expensive these days, and they will last for hundreds of years if you don't do much reversing.

Landi.ch online could be an option.

For Halogens and Xenon's you should search on online in EU, other cheap lights anywhere in CH as suggested above.

Have you lot all become too Swissified, or what? - making the simplest of tasks, complicated?

He needs a simple, single filament 12V/21W clear white, bayonet fitting light bulb.

All this bollox about buying on line - I've heard it all, now.

OP - go to Jumbo, tomorrow morning and you'll be fine.

Yeah, I carry them around all the time .

Caution: changing a bulb is a job for a Swiss-qualified professional mechanic, and should not be attempted by an unqualified layperson. For your information, car lights work by ELECTRICITY, which is very dangerous. Why try to save a few hundred CHF, when you can have peace of mind by getting the job done professionally?

We've occasionally had a light out on the car. Go to the Garage and get it changed. We pay about 15 chuffs each time. Saves a lot of hassle and time.

Look on the bright side

and 'ave a good weekend y'all

On our car it says in the manual the headlight bulbs should only be changed by the dealer. All it needs is small hands and takes less than 5 minutes. If you have big hands, you need a wrench, so an extra 2 minutes.

The alternative is call the garage, make an appointment, drive to garage, pay a fortune, wait for it to be done and drive home.

It's well worth learning to do some of the simple things in life, like change a light bulb.
