Reputable guinea pig breeder?

Hello, does anyone have experience with a reputable guinea pig breeder? Preferably close to Bern or Luzern?

We will be ready to welcome the guinea pigs (just 2, no space for more) in June.

Thanks!

I brought my piggies to this place for boarding this past February:

They also breed guinea pigs on a limited basis. Absolutely wonderful people, and they take excellent care of their GPs. I have no experience buying from them, but we talked a bit and I saw that they feed and house all of them very well. It is a mother and daughter who have this side business together in their house. Very neat set-up!

Thanks for the recommendation!

Can I please also ask where you get hay?

It varies. Before the border closed, I ordered a lot through amazon.de. Now, I am going to Qualipet and they have good hay options. Luckily, my piggies prefer the cheapo Jura Heu (hay from the Jura region) over the pricey organic stuff. My local Qualipet has much more guinea pig stuff than the Fressnapf. There are also online stores like zooplus.ch but I have not ordered anything there.

We get the hay for our guinea pigs from Landi.

One of our piggies died last Sunday, so we have a three year old black and brown girl all on her own. I don't really want to get another piggy to be her friend but she is not happy on her own. Does anyone want a new female guinea pig to add to their piggy family?

I can deliver to Aargau, Zürich, Schwyz or Glarus.

Alternatively, does anyone know of a good website to put her up for adoption?

https://nagerstation.ch

"Meerschweinchen vom Jonental" do not have any young animals for adoption before July. This is actually a good sign.

So, I ended up getting three guinea pigs from another breeder (not the one recommended, but another with a nice website).

Unfortunately, one of them was delivered to me with visible ringworm and mite combination. It was really obvious upon "delivery", but I just could not bring myself to let the poor thing behind!

I am upset, thinking that if this happens to guinea pigs in Switzerland, I don't even want to know what it is like elsewhere...

Does anyone where I can get Miconazole shampoo here?

Well, im going to be a bit nasty here and say that if you chose a breeder based on a webpage, well....

Switzerland is not paradise. Its a country withproblems like everywhere else, maybe less and less visible. Some people are idiots no matter where they are.

OTOH, good for you for not leaving the poor thing behind Good luck getting ride of the mites and please post pictures!

You are not nasty, it was stupid of me.

Anyway, I treated all three with Ivermectin already (Beapharm) and tomorrow is anti-fungal bath-time.

I also ordered some liquid Vitamin C (from iHerb) for them, because they won't eat any bell peppers! They only eat carrots and cucumbers.

By the way, for anyone happening upon this thread, there is a Youtube Channel "Saskia from Los Angeles Guinea Pig Rescue" with lots of useful advice.
