Hi everyone!
The situation:
I'm a EU-2 citizen looking to move into the Swiss. I would fall under the residence without gainful employment category.
I would be looking for a job after I move, and if I get one, I will then get the appropriate permit depending on contract.
My information:
As far as I understand, as soon as I move, I have to register with the local authorities. I would then get an L permit which can be prolonged for up to a year if I want to stay longer than 3 months.
So in order to be allowed to reside there without gainful employment, I have to prove I have the financial means to live my life without needing social support... and get swiss health insurance.
The questions:
So what do I need to prove I have enough financial means? How is this evaluated? What is an approximate amount of money they want to see? Does it vary between kantons (I'd be most interested in Zurich)? And how much would a health insurance policy that covers accidents cost on top of that?
If anyone has had experience with this, I would be very grateful for your advice and information.
Thanks!
You’d need to reckon around CHF2,500 to CHF3,000 a month I think, but it will depend on the canton you plan to live in so you should check with the Zurich canton migration office for the exact figure. To give you another rough comparison the CRUS website for the Swiss universities reckons students need between CHF21,000 and CHF31,000 per year depending on the unversity, its location and how extravagant they want to be. You’ll need evidence in the form of bank statements.
Health insurance would be around CHF200-CHF300 a month, but it depends on what excess you take out and whether you also include any supplemental coverage.
Bear in mind that due to the recent vote to curb immigration finances are being scrutinized even more thoroughly so if the Swiss authorities don’t think you have enough to live on after 3 months you won’t get your permit renewed.
If you say "move into the Swiss" at migrations, no amount of fin.support is going to get you a permit. I mean, really, move to Switzerland . To Swit-zer-land! Makes me cringe everytime i read it here. Ppl are willing to give their last money to live here for a couple of months, but not willing to learn country's name
Medea, those estimates are very helpful. The Zurich Migrationsamt was very evasive when I asked about a figure and implied I will find out more when I register with the local authorities (after I move in). I'd expect them to be scrutinizing, which is why I want to be informed before I show up with my stack of papers. Many thanks and have a nice week!
Hope it helps Swiss_pond and good luck with the move. Let us know what you find out; it’s always useful for others to have some feedback from those who’ve come before.
