Resources for learning German for children

Hi all,

Any suggested free resources for teaching German (and Swiss German) for children (5 years old)?

Thanks!

My kids have picked up Swiss German while playing with the neighbours. My eldest was also 5 when we moved here, and it took him 6-8 months to speak the language. Incidentally, the little neighbours have picked up quite a bit of English along the way!

And cartoons in German is another great way to learn the language. At this age, I think it comes quite easily for kids, as long as they are not forced to learn!

As soon as you get here go to the nearest Brockenhaus (like a Goodwill store) and look for children's books.

Also find your nearest Ludothek.

Yeah, I agree it has to be fun. My son is 5, so hopefully he'd pick it up quickly too

Thanks for the link

Other kids, cartoons, Donald Duck (and other comics, but i loved DD myself)

Our elder daughter did too - and decided that all children spoke Swiss German and all adults spoke English. So at that time she spoke English to me but Swiss German to her little sister!

How cute!!

I just found out about this, German as a second language for non-German speaking school-aged children.

Any one have more about this? Is it offered at every school? Do we have to apply or is it automatically offered to children?

School. TV.
