OH will retire in the next year or so, the timing will probably align with our C permit renewal.
If I understand correctly, to maintain our permits we have to show continued 'economic participation'. How is economic participation assessed for retirees?
We'll still be paying taxes on investment income, of course.
But if OH retiring puts our C permits in jeopardy, we need to reassess plans for the next few years.
Can any C permit retirees, bonus points if in SZ, comment on what was needed to demonstrate sufficient economic participation in order to keep your permits?
It is a broad term applied in both the AIG and the BüG that just means being able to finance your living costs via income from work, or being economically independent when not working (via personal wealth and/or state pensions for example) without drawing on cantonal/communal social help. Being on unemployment insurance is considered participating in economic life.
Federal complementary benefits to AHV/IV pensions are assimilated to social help based on jurisprudence.
Health insurance premium subsidies would likely be considered social help in a conservative canton like SZ (unlikely in Romandie for example).
As retirees in case of doubt, they may ask for a projection of your retirement income and/or wealth just to ensure you won’t be eligible to apply for federal complementary benefits or health insurance subsidies in the near future.
AFAIK, economic participation applies to you being able to support yourself through your incomes/assets without being a burden on the state (using Social Help). I know of people who have renewed their C Permit while being retired without any issues.
