Returning car brought to Switzerland within 1st 12 months

Hi there

I'm sure this is something that must have been raised before, however a scan of the first few pages of the driving section of the forum doesn't show any related threads.

What's the score if I return a vehicle to the UK after having taken it to Switzerland as part of my personal possessions? I've owned it for >6 month pre-arrival and so will have avoided import tax/duties.

If I take it back to the UK, will it be classed as an import and so be hit with UK taxes/duties at the border?

That’s a question for the British.

If it's still on UK plates and you never declared it as permanently exported then you just take it back and need do nothing. Otherwise you can google it "reimporting a car into UK". The official gov.uk website is quite clear.

Did you pay car tax and VAT in he UK? If so what more can the screw you for??
