Returning to the UK with plants

Did anyone move to or is anyone planning to return to the UK with plants recently? I have houseplants older than I am that I don’t want to leave behind, but the recent rule changes look like this will be very difficult!

My understanding is that as houseplants aren't "plants for planting" then you'd be OK.

Yes, I have wondered what plants for planting means - I have even wondered about registering as an importer myself. So I guess I’m looking to see if anyone has had any negative experiences recently.

According to ChatGPT

""Plants for planting" refers to live plants, bulbs, seeds, or other plant material that are intended for propagation or cultivation.

These can include trees, flowers, shrubs, vegetables, fruits, or any other type of plant intended to be grown in the ground or in containers.

The term is commonly used in the context of customs regulations and international trade to identify items that may be subject to specific import or export controls, inspections, or restrictions due to the potential risk of introducing pests, diseases, or invasive species to a new country or region.

It is important to check the specific customs regulations of the country in question to understand the requirements and restrictions related to importing or exporting plants for planting."

Will maybe phone DEFRA.

I can understand your concerns. Ive had similar situations. If needed, I can offer to give a good home or perhaps hold on to them until you can work out the logistical issues.
