Revolut gives its entire data on 700 customers to scammers

Contrary to what the FT article falsely claims it’s not a breach. Instead the scammers posed as the government and got customer data freely handed to them because Revolut staff has a subzero IQ.

From the FT:

Nearly 700 Revolut customers have been affected by a data breach which saw the fintech accidentally hand over passport details, bank account numbers and home addresses to cybercriminals posing as government officials.

Revolut complied with the [scammer’s] request and handed over sensitive information including addresses, verification pictures, identity cards and bitcoin activity. Hackers purporting to be behind the incident are threatening to release the information to the public unless Revolut pays a ransom.

The article isn’t paywalled:

If you’re a Bitcoin whale on Revolut, expect to be kidnapped and tortured until you give up your keys.
