Rivella (warning: CH newbie alert)

Ok, since arriving in CH, I've wondered what Rivella was, since it's everywhere.

Turns out it's this .

Tried my first (red) one yesterday...it tasted like very sweet and very dilute american light beer to me.

Any other native recommendations to try? Non-alchohic preferred, but knowledge of the harder stuff will be useful on the next staff night out.

The green Rivella is my favorite. Green tea extract. You're lucky that you missed out on the yellow one which they quietly removed from the market back in 2010, I'm not an expert, but it was close to yak piss.

You could try Flauder as well, a herbal drink with a flowery taste.

I've never tried the red Rivella, only the blue, which I found to be fine, though a little odd.

I have a real weakness for Apfelschorle - "Shorley" is one brand. It is part of a more general Germanic habit of mixing fruit juice with carbonated water.

Rivella? Fermented stewed sock-juice and flop-sweat, what the gods of all Swissyness where thinking when they brought that revolting cat squeeze to Uri Schuggi the Promethian Proto-eidgenosse I have no idea.

I quite liked the yellow Rivella.

Groan at me all you want Nil, fact is that you can use the stuff during exorcisms.

No self respecting demon would want to stay in a body infected by Rivella poisoning.

Rivella is a household favorite for our family (except for my wife, who has far too distinguished a palette). it's actually very good as a sports drink, too, nothing better than a liter bottle to bring along on gamedays. those liter bottles come in handy on road trips into France, too, when the kids have been so spoiled by the Swiss sense of cleanliness that they refuse to use the facilities at the French rest stops.

The green variant is ok, while the blue one is weak. I still prefer the traditional RED variant. or in regard to softdrinks COOP-PrixGarantie-Grapefruit or Sinalco (again the basic variant).

I never drink the stuff either, but like CrazyGringo I found the empty bottles came in handy when camping. After an evening drinking too much beer, it is a long & dangerous walk, avoiding tent lines, to the toilets: So I fill up an old Rivella bottle and next morning nobody blinks an eyelid as I wander to the toilets carrying my full bottle of "Rivella"

I didn't think much of it the first time I tried it. When I was told that one of the ingredients was whey, or milk serum, I almost had a moment.

Ovo-drink. Good emergency breakfast substitute with a banana.

Pretty sure the yellow one is still available in Migros. My 5 year old likes it as a occasional treat

Mein Gott! ..... how terrible.

Whatever you do, do NOT try milk - it contains even more than Rivella.

Bought a bottle of red and a bottle of blue after hearing some people rave about it. After I bought it but before I drank it, I learned of the milk protein ingredient. Now I can't bring myself to open it; I probably should have tried it before Googling it.

Carbonated beverages and milk products belong in two separate glasses in my kitchen. Sorta like keeping kosher.

I was introduced this drink by the waitress 5 years ago, whilst I was pregnant. She told me it is very good for the baby. I had a bottle and then I was told by others that it gives energy? Until now still not sure what is it for!

Rivella is all our teenage son pines for whenever we leave Switzerland, we are forced to hit the first roadway stop the minute we cross the border back on the way home.

My Godmother loved Rivella and Red Wine, and was still well off on the 95th birthday. True, she passed away half a year later, but quite obviously Rivella and Red Wine kept her up into old age
