Roche Maternity Leave conditions ?

Hi All,

I am considering applying for a position at Roche, in Basel and I am trying to know what is they maternity leave policy in case i have a child in the next years. I have read on their conditions that the maternity leave in 18 weeks (which is great, my current company is at 14 weeks), but i cannot find if they are paying the full salary during the period (like my current company does, but only for 14 weeks) or only a percentage of it.

That would be very helpful if any of you has information about this.

Thanks a lot

I really hope no one from Roche is reading this - for your sake

That's fine they can read. This company is advertising itself as promoting a work like balance and one of the best company for mother to work with. If they have a maternity leave plan, i guess this is to be used. Or you believe that getting pregnant or considering this aspect before working for a company is playing a trick to your employer ? ..

Roche has hundreds of jobs open and thousands of Myriams applying...

Roche general conditions for single work-contracts state that the new mother has a right to 18 weeks of paid leave, of which a maximum of four weeks can be taken prior to birth without a doctor's certificate requirement. See p. 6 (German):

Added:

The GAV (General Work Contract) for the Basel chemical industry grants 18 weeks of full-salary maternity leave. This GAV includes Roche. See this link (German):

http://www.wirtschaft.ch/Laengerer+M...844/detail.htm

Specifically, the articles says: "Basel - In der Basler Chemie wird der Mutterschaftsurlaub von 16 auf 18 Wochen verlängert, bei vollem Lohn ."

Hi Mullhollander, this is what i've read as well but i do not know if "Paid" leave means full salary or only 70% (as swiss law required with a maximum daily rate). I would say that if they would have paid full salary for this period, they would have mentioned it. So now i am trying to see what is the percentage of the salary they are paying.

Roche employees are welcome to reply : )

Thanks agian

A 30% salary differential over the 18 weeks maternity leave costs you approx. CHF 1,000 Per CHF 10,000 you earn in the year when you take the maternity leave. Would you really make a career decision based on that amount of money (as a one time hit)? Particularly given your current employer and the generally high level of benefits and career opportunities at BigPharma?

Eyebeebe, sorry i do not get your calculation. Let's say my monthly salary is 10.000CH. If a company pays what Swiss law requires it is "80% (it was 80 and not 70%) of their wages in the form of a daily allowance, but no more than CHF 196 per day" : so 196x5 = 980CH per week and 4900CH per month. Total for 18 weeks (around 4 months) :17'640CH , instead of 40.000CH . Difference of earning around 23'000CH. For me at the end of the year, it makes a indeed a difference.

Thanks a lot for your help, that's clear :-)

Sorry, I didn’t see the maximum daily rate cap, but I would be amazed if a company like Roche capped its daily maximum like that.
