Rollis Steakhouse - Oerlikon

Hi,

Any of you city boys know about this reaturant ?

I am looking for somewhere close to Theatre 11, Thurgauerstrasse 7, 8050 Zürich for Saturday night, early dinner before theatre.

https://rollis-steakhouse.ch/cms/en/home/

It's a bit of a Zürich institution. One of those places that virtually everybody knows of and has probably been to at some point.

Tks, any other suggestings in same area much appreciated

We were there once before a concert at the Hallenstadion. Bit of a disappointment as we had heard it was popular. Service was slow and the meat was overcooked (we didn't have time to ask it to be replaced). Drinks were expensive, even for Zürich.

We won't be going back.

There is an Italian place slightly closer. I can't remember the name, but it is the German or Italian name for a fouine (weasel like animal).

Hi Today Only,

There is nice Indian restaurant right near Theater 11.

https://malabar-restaurant.ch/

I have been there a couple of times and I like it.

I'd go to Malabar or Tamarind Hill also. OH likes Steakhouse Argentina.

The best value steakhouse in Zurich. Meat (red meat, at least) generally arrives on a hot stone so you cook it to your tastes. Upsizing to larger steaks is pretty cost effective per 50g.

It's a small place and usually packed so you have to book in advance and expect that the waiting staff may be a little pressured. Still, I've never had any problems of significance there.

As mentioned Malabar or Tamarind Hill are good. Dapur Indonesia would be another one. Hofwiesen, a nice Austrian restaurant, is one or two tram stops away.

Hi City Boys,

The Indian restaurant, Malabar seems good choice, it'll make a difference for us country bumpkins to eat something else than Fondues !!

Tks to everybody for their suggestions, i'll reserve tomorrow.

PS If you want to se a really funny musical try "Book of Mormon" in Theatre 11 for next few weeks.

Depends on your taste, budget and expectations.

There is also the Brasserie Federal in Oerlikon Bahnhof with a range of traditional Swiss dishes and coming on for 100 beers to chose from. A good choice if you don't have much budget or time.

There is also an American-style restaurant called Cheyenne or something like that in one of the side streets between the Sternen tram stop and the market square. A bit pricey in my opinion but definitely enjoyable.

If you want something slightly more exclusive and up market, go to the Gleis 9 which is just on the other side of the tracks in the old yellow brick building. They have a range of exquisite tapas and things and various unconventional variations on conventional dishes. A really nice bar as well.

I can vouch for this one: https://www.dapur-indonesia.ch/

It's delicious Indonesian plant-based food. Lovely, intimate atmosphere.

I remember now it was Furetto, Wallisellenstrasse 5.

Indian restaurants. Totally overpriced! And often inferior food

I would have invited you but i have civilized company with me that evening, sorry but i'm sure you understand....

I'm also a good actor. I can fake it!

Rolli's Steakhouse is popular, but I realized meat mostly comes from overseas, which may be an issue if you want to stick with CH/EU meat.

I can recommend Santa Lucia, almost in front of Rolli's, at the road crossing. Good pizza that would be appreciated in Italy, and also good pasta, plus other menu items that I never tried (it focuses on pizza but is a full restaurant).

As for desserts, Tiramisu is simply amazing.

They are actually a franchise with a few places in Zurich (Paradeplatz, Bellevue, Niederdorf...) I have tried most of them and quality seems uniformly good.

And lastly, cheaper than Rolli's.

I've not been to Santa Lucia in many many years so I guess they may have changed and moved on.

Back when I was at uni it was a place we used to hang out quite a bit, because it was cheap, not because it was good.

Omtatsat posts, totally useless. And often not worth reading.

Fixed that for you.

We’er all more than well aware of your talents
