Rough cost of car service

Hi

I'm currently doing my sums whilst considering a move to the Geneva area. Can anyone give me a rough estimate of the cost for an annual service for an average family car, say a 2 litre estate car?

An idea of any other car related costs would be much appreciated as well (I have insurance costs from comparis).

Thanks

Andy

I have a 3 liter (2.7) 2004 jeep. on average everything included (service, tires, tax, insurance) it runs me close to 800-900 a month (without gas)

Maybe about CHF 1,000,-- but if you drive 30 minutes to France you will pay only about CHF 500,--

Have you found a flat and a car park then? Maybe this is more practical, http://www.mobility.ch/en/pub/index.cfm

Wow, what were the odds of you posting this when I was just trying to find out myself the same thing. If it helps, I found out today that the service for my 2 year old, 32 000 kms Yaris (diesel) is 700 CHF. I am now trying to see where I could go in France. Anyone have any ideas?

Just had service on my VW Passat (100k km)

-change oil

-winter tires mounted (my own)

-replaced a temperature sensor

842 chf

They found some stuff that I need to have work on, but for that I will be making an appointment at a VW garage in Germany

Thanks for the info and links folks.

Going to Germany will save you quite a lot. I just had service on my Golf (100k km too), including

-oil/ oilfilter change

-winter tyres mounted and balanced

-pollenfilter replaced

-liquids refilled (breaks, wiper)

-new rear wiper blade

-new battery

Costs were 200€ which I find a very good price.

Had a long life service on the Audi (A3) and it cost Fr. 550 - not bad considering 100 of that was directly linked to the Quattro maintenance, and it was AMAG.

Just to have an idea about CH/FR costs for service, here is my situation:

I have a Renault Megane 2 (2008) petrol engine.

This autumn I had to do the "big" maintenance (changing the distribution belt, etc.).

I went to 3 different Renault garages in my area and the price quot. I got for this maintenance was aprox. 2500 CHF.

Then I went to France (Annecy) @ the biggest Renault garage I could find in this area and they did the service for only 910 Euro. I had to leave the car for 3 days but they gave me a replacement car at a very convenient rate.

Here is the list of the operations within the maintenance in France:

- oil change

- oil filter replacement

- air filter replacement

- cabin filter replacement

- distribution belt replacement (including rollers)

- accesories belt replacement

- sparking plugs replacement

- cooling liquid level adjustment

- general inspection (direction, exhaust, etc.)

More or less, the cost of car service depends on 2 things:

1. the country you choose to do the service in (if it's France/Germany, it's almost half of the cost in Switzerland.)

2. the garage you're choosing (it might be a little expensive at the dealer but at least they offer warranty, they are very professional and they are doing the same operations day by day so they will know exactly what needs to be done).

Whatever the cost, I'd first try to get whatever replacement parts on your own and just have the garage swap them out.

We put in our Peugot 407SW in it's 100k maintenance, and they charged us over 100CHF just for windshield wipers blades. Next time we're buying all the parts ourselves.

Fully agree on getting any cheap parts yourself... labour here pricey in comparison to simple DIY replacements.

However, I just had my car serviced (small service) at Euromaster in Hardbrucke... and as long as you don't buy your tyres from them, I fully recommend them. Service was just over 200chf (for an aging Audi S4), including fluids. I then had to have couple of other things done later for the MFK inc exhaust weld (very surprised the garage didn't attempt to get me to replace it instead) and full engine/underbody clean, 205chf..... not bad by anybody's standards I think.

Does anyone know where to buy the parts for toyotas?

Ford Maverick 2006 - 2.3 petrol , gets service on Friday.

Full service, (plugs, oil, filters etc) the works for 600 Chf.

This includes a a rental car for the day,so not to bad.

Its still under warrantee as we only bought it in May this year, so all parts that need replacement is going to be on the garage ill milk them for as long as i can

But all by all good garage, without the rental car for one day, it would be in the 450 Chf region.

Looks like you can get it done at a reasonable cost if you shop around then. Thanks

Just got my car service bill. Just shy of CHF 700 including oil, break fluid, 3 filters and a wheel change. That was at a local garage and not a dealer. Worked out a few hundred francs cheaper than the dealer BUT they left my turbo opening unscrewed and didn't test drive the car after the service, meaning I drove out onto an 80km/hr zone and my car lost power and all the electrics conked out and it stopped and wouldn't start. They garage towed me back and screwed it back into place

Our trying to save money was way more inconvenient and more costly, since hubby had to leave work early to pick up the kids. I hate the local volvo dealer with a passion and we had them not finding a known suspension fault until after the warranty was up. Another dealer in Zurich said that there was no way the fault could have happened in the last year because we drove so little that year. The also charged us once for changing 6 wheels

Anybody tried these guys? A colleague told me about these people
