I've recently started using the Runkeeper iphone GPS application / website to record my outdoor training and activities, especially running.
The program / website has a lot less "noise" than alternatives such as mapmyrun, and no advertisements. The application itself is also excellent (lite version is free, pro version 11 francs).
There is also a "Street Team" function...where others using the program can link profiles. But the filter / search for other users doesn't really exist yet.
So I thought I'd start this thread for people who may be using the application in Switzerland, but aren't sure who is english-speaking and available for street team invites.
I'll start... my username on the website is cityeast, and you're welcome to invite me to your street team :-)
The primary functions on the website are great, but secondary functions need ironing out. One of them is a search / filter feature for Street Team. Right now about the only way to find someone is wait until they pop-up randomly in the left-column, or add them through FB.
I've been using Runkeeper for a while now, but I'm starting to get frustrated with reception problems and am going to get a wrist mounted Garmin soon enough. Runmeter is also quite a good iphone app, with completely configurable voice updates and a nice calendar style interface, only it lacks the great website interface RK has.
Thanks Litespeed. I won't carry my iPhone when running, I use the Garmin 405, but if Fraser isn't around to program it for me, I'm trashed. He sent me a link about the new Garmin Forerunner 110:
I love my Garmin Forerunner (305). They are so cheap now in the US (less than 150 USD). With the Forerunner, I've never had any problems with satellite reception in Switzerland.
I bought mine a couple of years ago in when I was still living in the US. You can charge it from the USB or from the wall. I've not had any problems with it. I've used it nearly every day for 2 years (or more- I can't remember) and the battery still works great.
I just wish the software that came with it was a little bit more customizable- you can't change the axes on the graphs it generates (which is annoying because it will plot your run 'pace' from 0 minutes/mile to 60 minutes/mile.) {It does km too, but I still pace my runs in miles}.
But I love my Forerunner and can't say enough good things about it.
I too love my Garmin 305, and my new Edge 705 for cycling. The Garmin Training Center software is rubbish. If you're running Windows, check out SportTracks . You can probably pull in tracks from iPhone too.
