Running in Geneva?

Hi, I'm leaving for Geneva in a few weeks. I enjoy casual distance running for exercise (not a racer haha just a relaxed 10k)

Is it possible to go running outside? Trails maybe, any parks full of joggers? Is it okay/safe to go for a run alone in the evenings (I'm female)?

Please do let me know, any Genevians(?)/Genevoise(??) out there! Thanks!

Yes it is very easy to go running. In the mornings and evenings there are normally lots of people running around the shores of the lake, or for something a little less flat you can head down the banks of the Rhone.

I would say Geneva is safer than the vast majority of other cities in the world, but of course there are very occasional problems. One specific area I have heard of is during winter evenings in the Jardin Anglais, although I believe this is more related to bag snatching. As a male, I have run through there many times without any problems, and if you are concerned you can just follow the road around the outside instead.

In short, you should not have any concerns about going running around Geneva.

running by the lake! that sounds awesome! im excited already-thanks so much!! =)

There are lots of people running in the mornings along the lake at the moment - plenty of English speakers aswell.

One of my favorite runs is to head through Parc Barton, under the road through the Jardin Botanique and head up the hill to Pregny (there is another park on the right that goes past the Geneva school of diplomacy). The hill's a bit nasty the first time, but the views of the Jura are worth it. You can do a big loop around the block (a big paddock) and then head down the hill to the lake. Google maps will show you the places. If you go at lunch, there will be heaps of runners from the UN and other organisations to follow - that's how I found it.

Also, don't forget the Jardin Botanique doesn't open until 8am, so that's a bit annoying for the early runs.

Happy running.
