Time for some slight rust removal and applying of wax/oil protection on the underside of the car. I've been looking around at where to do a "hohlraumbehandlung" and a "unterbodenbehandlung" in Zurich but it seems like there are no specialized garages for this?
I found one but they haven't responded to my email I sent two weeks ago and no one picks up the phone. I found another on the other side of the border but it's quite a stretch as it is past Stuttgart..
Does anyone have recommendation in the Zurich/Winterthur larger area for this? Would be highly appreciated.
I'm looking for the same and the link posted in the thread is not active anymore. It would be great if someone could recommend a place that they have used.
Anywhere in Switzerland, France or Germany is fine.
If its a relatively new car built after 1999 it should already have rust protection. Unless its a Fiat who in earlier days used recycled metal to make new cars with the rust already built in. Don't know if anyone does that anymore. However, I wouldn't put pass some firm to use radioactive waste metal.
Unfortunately if it has rust already there is noting that can be done but scrape it away. Think of it like cancer. It spreads in threads and in the end it will engulf the car. Any attempt to rid it is only cosmetic.
What we did do in earlier days in the last century was to spray the inside of new French cars. We removed the rubber plugs in the metal frame and inserted a hose with a nozzel that basically gunked up the inner framework. This was basically done in the running boards below the doors, the lower door area and the wheel wells. But if its a new car there should be no need,
I cannot completely agree with this one. Its not only cosmetic. There are plenty of 25- 30 year old 4x4's which have done the under body/chassis restoration and is good or better than new. I personally owned a Daihatsu F50 for 4 years which was treated and the protection the coatings provide is excellent.
I guess 99.9% of the new cars will get some sort of rust underneath after around 5 years time. Like you said it will spread like cancer but the damage can definitely be slowed down big time with treatment
