I was typing a looong post, but then everything disappeared (silly me for not backing it up)
Does anyone know any stories about people taking sabbatical on C permit, and then having problems during the naturalization, or having their C permit downgraded?
Let’s assume that when applying for naturalization the person is employed (but had some gap sabbatical years while on C permit)
Let’s also assume that during the sabbatical the person is integrated (language, paying the bills, residing in Switzerland), just that they don’t have an employer.
As a disclaimer: yes, it’s a very risky choice to take sabbatical, many bad things can happen, like sudden bankruptcy, illness, getting sued, etc. If possible, let’s try to focus on government side of this problem.

It seems like not participating in economic life is a good reason to downgrade the C permit. If one is unemployed and not on RAV (so relying just on savings, not super rich, but enough to cover several years of expenses), I assume this may count as unwillingness to participate in economic life and thus lead to the downgrade.
I would be happy to hear your experiences, if any.
