Im not knocking switzerland here, I am wondering is there some sort of EU wide shortage of them ? The lady in landi implied so but wasnt certain but its surreal that you cannot get them anywhere at the peak time.
Does anyone know if there is some kind of european shortage of wood pellets the ones that go in the wood pellet burners ? There is none in Obi, Landi, Hornbach, Jumbo or anywhere I can find and hasnt been for 2 weeks. It's crazy, we are in the middle of winter.
We experienced similar just before xmas. We order by the truckload, usually it comes in 72 hrs after ordering, this time the first order got cancelled and then after re-order it finally arrived 2 weeks later.
There is a general shortage of construction wood (both in EU and USA) and I had assume this is a knock-on from that.

We bought a bag yesterday at a Landi in Zurich. I think they are made in Switzerland as a byproduct of woodmill operations.

You might go back to your local Landi and ask them to look at the stocks of other stores on their system. Hopefully you will find some that way. Be sure to ask them to call the store and reserve the bag(s) for you.
I also noticed a sign in the store in Italy the other day that they were sold out of wood pellets.
I can't offer any assistance other than that I have trees to be cut down which will certainly provide good firewood.
many thanks for the offer - in fact the stores have absolutely tonnes of straight up wood for the fire, its just these sacks of pellets which seem to be impossible to get hold of.
Does look from other posters like this is more than just CH, fortunately for me its just the one room we heat with it but I can imagine some people must be in a bit more of a difficult situation.

They are however going fast. I watched one person who took 5 bags.
there were plenty of large sacks at HyperU Pontarlier the other day.
Thé local Landi here had a notice up saying that they were out of stock as did Jumbo.
We use them as cat litter but fortunately we already have two bags and the cats very rarely use the litter trays so they should be ok.
I was in a Landi yesterday and saw the sign. When they have time to print up a proper sign it is not good news. I talked with the manager and she said they had no idea when they might have a delivery.

They are great for cat litter. I have always wondered if they can be burned after in a small burner. A friend heats his entire house with them and gets them delivered by tanker. I think the problem is that they are
a waste byproduct of the wood industry and production activities have been reduced due to COVID.
I was in Coop Bau & Hobby in Volketswil today and just happened to notice a large stack of wood pellets for sale there, located near the entrance.

Actually on the RTS news now. Cold weather, Covid, etc... shortage all over Europe apparently.
They obviously got a new shipment as they had several pallets in the shop in Italy when I was there on Sunday. But they were going fast. I saw a few people with carts loaded with many bags.
